I am one month post op, and so far my weight loss has been great. My only issue is that I have cut coffee out and replaced it with hot teas. But .... I MISS MY COFFEE!!! Don't get me wrong I love a hot cup of tea but it's so much better in the evening. I need that morning pick me up like coffee!!! What are the guidelines for drinking coffee after lap band?

No way would I stop coffee.....I had my first cup less than 24hrs after surgery...I drink it all the time....

But just because I do it, dose not make it correct and allow others to go against their Dr.'s rules....

My Dr. never told me no, or perhaps forgot to tell me no.....by the time I told him I was drinking it every day all he could do was shrug his shoulders....

Everything else was working fine, coffee was not interfering.....

I don't know why American (and Mexican?) doctors say no coffee. I don't really drink coffee anyway, but my surgeon explicitly listed coffee as among the liquids I could be drinking to get my 1.5 liters (at the very least!!) a day.

My doc said no coffee for 6 weeks after surgery. If I remember it was because it could cause acid reflux. I now have it everyday.

I think it depends on the type if WLS you had. If you had gastric bypass the reason you can't have coffee is the tannic acid that puts you at risk for ulcers. If you had Gastric Sleeve I think you can. I am having gastric bypass and that is what my dr told me.

I am a band patient and I only drank Decaf for first 6 months. Now I drink high test. I would suggest talking with your Doc about it and see what he/she thinks.

Our surgeon said coffee is fine... I had lap band, wifey has VSG. My wife only tolerates Decaf, but it was that way before surgery.

Our doc's only concern was to avoid using sugar or creamers--too many extra calories!

But, you have to follow what your doctor advises, since he knows your medical history and other concerns.

my doctor said as tolerated...I drink maybe 2 cups in the morning...and maybe one at work if it's a hectic day it hasn't ever bothered me. but like most say some doctors say yes and/or no...sorry you can't seem to manage it. I love my hot tea at night too...I am Keurig spoiled!!! LOL

I never gave up my coffee even pre op. I told my doctor and he was fine with it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
