Food tolerance post surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone- My bypass is scheduled for July 7 and recently I seem to be reading a lot about things people can no longer tolerate after surgery. For instance, I just read of a woman who packs all her own food when invited to cookouts because she rarely finds bariatric friendly food. Is this normal? What are some of the things you have not tolerated? And what foods did you love that you no longer do?

Thank you!

Pre surgery I was addicted to sugary, sweet foods and fatty, salty foods. Eight weeks post op I can no longer tolerate anything sweet or fatty. I no longer crave sweets, potatoe chips, or fried chicken wings. The smell of any food frying in grease makes me nauseous. I've lost 55 lbs since my surgery April 21st and I work out everyday and eat three meals and two light Snacks per day along with my Protein Drink. I still struggle with whey Protein but I tolerate it because it helps me meet my quota every day. I feel great and I'm grateful that I had Bariatric surgery. At my highest weight I was 322 lbs in December 2013. I weighed 285 on the day of surgery, today I weigh 225 lbs. good luck to you on your journey, you too will reap the benefits lbs of WLS and Celebrate the happier, healthier you!!!

Hi I had surgery may 19 and loved sweets after surgery I can't tolerate fried food, scramble eggs, and only thing sweat I like is sugarfee Popsicles , the smell of fried foods make me nauseated . But everyone is different. Good luck by the way I would do the surgery a 1000 times because I feel great and I'm off diabetic meds .

Thank you to both of you! Right now, potato chips of all kind are my weakness. It would be awesome to no longer crave them or eat them!

Everyone is different when it comes to what you can or can't tolerate. I am fine with most things, but I can't eat anything greasy without getting sick. Also I have a difficult time with beef and pork. It's definitely a good idea to pack a safety lunch in case there isn't anything you can have, at least until you learn what does and doesn't work for you. There were plenty of times I'd do that, pack a bag with cheese sticks, boiled eggs, hummus and turkey slices, etc. It's never a bad idea. I often bring veggie burgers with me to cookout because I can't have a regular burger, or I'll offer to bring salad so I know there's at least one thing I can have.

No problem! I still pack safety lunches. I don't always use them but better safe than sorry!

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
