One of my first meals was Wendy's chili. It was soooo awesome after all the sweet shakes of the previous weeks. For Breakfast, instant cream of wheat made with skim milk, and a tablespoon of smuckers sugar free seedless blackberry jam.

I start purees Monday too. Pasting below some of the ideas from my surgeon's office. This in addition to well mashed tuna or egg salad, pureed chicken with mashed potatoes - anything the consistency of applesauce. 2, 3 and 4 look pretty good to me!

1. Sweet Ricotta Cheese: Part Skim Ricotta cheese, Splenda, Cinnamon and Choice of flavored extract like vanilla or Almond.

2. Noodle-less Lasagna: Part Skim Ricotta cheese, Ragu, Low fat Mozzarella and Parmesan Cheese. Microwave one minute.

3. Burrito-less Burrito: Refried Beans, Taco Sauce or Smooth Salsa, Low Fat Cheddar Cheese. Microwave 1 minute. Top with tablespoon of Low Fat Sour Cream.

4. Deviled Egg Salad: 1-2 Hard Boiled eggs, Low Fat Mayonnaise, Low Fat Vegetable Cream Cheese. Mush well with Fork. Must be moist!

5. Protein Shake: Scoop of Protein powder (i.e. Body Fortress Premium whey Protein Powder, 8 Ounces Skim or 1% Milk. shake or Blend with ice.

6. Protein Pudding: In a blender put 2 1/4 cups of Skim or 1% milk, 1 package of Sugar Free/Fat Free Instant pudding and 3 scoops of Protein powder. Divide into 3 servings and enjoy as a meal.

I pureed refried Beans with a little chicken broth to make them runnier.

I also eat Greek yogurt (FF, very low sugar) with sugar-free Jello mixed in to give it some fruity flavor.

pureed chili is wonderful -- you get lots of spicy flavor without the chunks. I use FF Turkey chili with no Beans.< /p>

tuna and fish weren't on my plan until the week 4 soft foods stage -- not on pureed.

I still drink a shake or two a day -- no better way to get a good chunk of Protein in.

And I didn't do the mashed potatoes at all -- staying as far away from carbs as I can until I can get my Protein numbers in every day.

Search for the recipe for Ricotta Bake - think lasagna w/o the Pasta. It's good for pureed and soft stage and is very delicious. Even my husband likes it and will finish the whole pan after I take my share. You can beef it up when you reach the regular food stage by topping it with sliced meatballs or meat sauce. Or add spinach and your favorite veggies. :-)

I remember starting this stage and being so excited for something different!! I ended up going to Panera bread and ordering about 5 different types of Soup to bring home. I would put them through a blender to get out any big chunks, and it was heaven!! I was so tired of sweet shakes, that the savory Soups were so wonderful. I think you can take any food and put it in the blender with a little broth to make it acceptable for the pureed stage. Always double check with your dr. though, and good luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
