Hello everyone, my surgery was April 30, 2013. I had the Gastric bypass in which my intestines were re-arranged. I'm having a major problem using the bathroom (no. 2) sorry. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to take on a regular basis to have bowel movements. I find myself pushing a lot but nothing happens unless I take a laxative to help me out.

On a better note I have moved from a size 16 to a 12. I'll assume it could be more if I can regularly empty my body!

Thanks

If I get constipated I use Miralax. It works wonders.

I know am eating more fruit and vegetables and it's made me regular. Try eating more of those a few times a day and see what happens.

Feel better.

Hi,

I had a terrible time too. I also take the Miralax and I was told to take it every night (increasing the amount I used until I got regular). It worked and now I just take some every night or every other depending on what I eat. I am adding more veggies now and that helps but I guess Protein is very constipating.....who knew ! LOL

Also try prune juice natural and you will go more easy on the insides.

I am a year post surgery and this has been my biggest ongoing problem. I use 1 Tablespoon of ground flaxseed mixed into my Greek Yogurt everyday. You can find ground flaxseed in the baking isle of most grocery stores. The one I use is by Bob's Red Mill. I have found that it really helps me a lot. And it's natural, a food source with lots of Fiber.

I am 3 months out and I am struggling with Constipation. I even ended up in the ER this past week due to fecal impaction. They gave me miralax to drink which helped me go. My surgeon/nut said that on daily basis I should have stool softener, benefiber and flax seed oil and drink lots of Water. So in the last 4 days thankfully I have not had issues. I have miralax, mom and some laxatives around if I need but am hoping with the regiment the doc said to follow will work. Hope this works for you!

I also bought senna tea which also helps with Constipation. Iron can also make you constipated so my surgeon/nut said to use slow fe or gentle iron. I bought gentle iron from Amazon. And I also have prunes to eat at home and I for Fiber gummies. Just want to be careful with fiber cause you don't want too much cause it can bulk up and then fecal impaction happens. So I just take 2 tsps of benefiber in my Breakfast in the morning and I have stool softener in the morning. Then in the evening I have flax seed oil with the gummie fiber in the evening. And of course have loads of Water through out the day. I am going to try out the senna this week cause I just got it last night.

I"m 6 weeks post op as of today, and my BM's have been the least consistent thing in my life. Mostly, I've had diarrhea if not just really loose. This week's been quiet, and of course yesterday was Constipation. I bought stool softeners before surgery, but just haven't needed it. Now I'm not sure what to do...

I eat a small apple every day and that keeps me regular. I had the sleeve so I don't know if you will get the same results. Good luck.

My surgery was 6/5/14 and I am having a terrible time with this as well. I'm hoping not to have to make a visit to the ER.

My PA said to use Miralax three times a day. It helped some. But my Constipation CURE was when I began using Chike High Protein coffee back around the beginning of April this year. I was looking for a Protein I liked and someone suggested I try it. It's coffee flavor and actually has two expresso shots in it (bonus!). I make it w/water and crushed ice in the blender and it tastes just like Dunkin Donuts Coffee Coolatta - delicious! I have one every morning instead of coffee. And suddenly I became regular - as in comfortably every 2-3 days regular!!! No more constipation with bloating, straining, and pain. I have been happy, happy, happy ever since. This is the best I have felt since my surgery 5/30/13!

I'm not saying it'll cure everyone's problem. I'm not even sure why it helps mine. I do know a few months ago in support group they were talking about caffeine and how it used to be forbidden forever until it was realized the caffeine helps w/constipation. Then they began allowing it after healing - at about three months post op. So maybe it's the real expresso that is helping me? All I know is that it has protein, it tastes good, it wakes me up in the morning, and I am regular once again!

Hello everyone,

I have a quick question can we use mineral oil for Constipation? I am not quite 4 weeks out and have questions. My 1 month follow up isn't for a few more weeks.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
