Just went to lapband seminar

Recommended Posts

I have just been to a lapband seminar. it was very informative and little intimidating. Before I went to the seminar I look at my benefit plan document and found out my insurance will pay 50% after my deductible :clap2:, which was nice to know up front. I filled out a medical history and sent it back in. My concerns is that I don't have alot of the medical problems most folks associate with morid obesity. No diabetes, high blood pressure or sleep apnea, but the nurse at the seminar said since my bmi (49)was high enough, it may not be a problem. I have watched the lapband surgery video online and think this may be a procedure that could really help me. I am working with doctors at Caritas medical group here and they have done over 850 procedures.

I know alot of insurance groups will still cover if your bmi is high enough because they dont want to pay future bills for HBP and SA.

Hey Krystal. You go girl! How are you doing with stuff like not grazing? That was a tough one for me.

CJ Angel....They told me that insurance usually pays if you are BMI 40 or above...or BMI 35 and above with other medical problems. (My insurance didn't cover it at all, however.... jerks.)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
