Cooking for my family actually helping post-op...

Recommended Posts

i have found that-strangely- cooking for my hubs and kids post op is making my relationship with food a more healthy one.

i am trying to create healthy, easy, versatile options for them. being home also is awesome and i have TIME to make them food. nothing that is complicated or hard, but just nice little meals.

i'm finding that during my full liquid phase, preparing the food, smelling it, and serving them is making me feel ok with the terms i am on with food. also, since i'm not sitting around obsessing about what our next meal is, making bohemith amounts, etc is helping me rewrite my food script a bit.

i thought it would be just the opposite and i wouldn't be able to cope with being around food, but i'm glad that i can do this for them AND work on my relationship with food at the same time!

I am having the same experience. I'm finally experimenting with new, healthy recipes for my family. I just modify my portions and leave off anything from my plate that's not on my plan.

I have a cupcake/cake catering business and I thought it would be hard to continue and not be able to taste anything, but I've found it's quite the opposite. I still love it and the smell alone and seeing my beautiful creations satisfies me. So strange, yet awesome!

I can totally relate! Even during my liquid post op phase I was super excited about cooking and baking for my family. It seemed weird and I thought it would be a struggle but it just isn't at all. I'm quite enjoying trying new recipes and experimenting and have had zero inclination to eat any baking etc. most but not all of the food I cook for my family I am able to modify and/or eat parts of it myself. Not having any appetite and/or knowing that if I eat certain foods will make me sick is making it easier for sure.

It's funny because if I go out socially my friends/family will keep apologizing to me if they are eating foods I can't or won't eat....it drives me nuts! Haha. No matter how many times I tell them it doesn't bother to me or that I don't crave it etc they don't "get it". I think so many woman are used to "dieting" that automatically they assume I'm sitting there dying to eat the crap food....but I couldn't be more grossed out by it. A friend was eating Doritos around me last week and the smell was making me literally dry heave. It was pretty funny actually. I'll take crappy food aversion side effects any day! ;)
