Hi,

My name is Brandi, my journey began in 2010, I had been looking at different weight loss options for a while and I decided to attend an information seminar, I started the process but decided to try and loss weight on my own with the help of my doctor and some weight loss medication. I did great and lost 80 pounds on to gain it all back and then some, I got so out of control and I was to a point that I couldn't walk up steps with out gasping for air, I no longer wanted to go to movies, amusement parks, or even out to the store with my husband because my body hurt so bad. I remember the day that I thought if I don't do something I am going to die, I had been sick so I scheduled a visit with my doctor. When they took me back and asked me to step on the scale it wouldn't even register my weight and I knew then that I was in a serious situation, after all the doctors scale went up to 510 pounds, if I couldn't weigh on it that meant that I weighed over 510 pounds!! That was my breaking point I scheduled myself to go to another seminar and I started my journey and it was the best thing that I ever did! I am down 148 pounds and I have so much more energy. I had my surgery in Georgetown, which is 3 hours from where I live, but Dr. Weiss was the best he is so caring and he really makes you feel at ease about the whole process and the girls at the bariatric center were one of a kind, they helped me get to were I am today with my eating habits and lifestyle. I do my follow-up care with Dr. Nwanguma in Bowling Green and they are all great also. I can't say that this has been an easy journey but it has been the best choice I ever made!

Hi Brandi and welcome! Thank you for sharing. I think most of us, if not all, can relate to the "gasping for air"feeling. Congrats on your success! Please keep us posted.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
