How do you use protein in recipes?

Recommended Posts

Morning all,

I'm curious... I'm not talking about Protein shakes, but I hear people talking about mixing unflavored Protein to food/recipes and I'm just wondering... How?

Are there any specific recipes or suggesions as to how to (and how much) add protein powders to food? For example, I can't imagine adding an entire scoop of protein to a can of soup/chili. My question is mostly about the quantity, and how you account for the protein addition on sites like MFP?

For example, a "heaping scoop" (44g) of Protein powder is a little less than 2 ounces. That's too much to add to a 15 ounce can of anything without messing up the consistency or flavor in a really bad way. One scoop is generally between 25 to 30 grams of protein, so if you only add a tablespoon or two, how do you figure out how many grams of protein that is for just a tbsp?

It's so confusing, and for anyone who adds protein to their food, I'm sure we'd ALL love some suggestions as to how to do it right...

Wayne

Measure how many teaspoons or tablespoons in a scoop and divide them to portions of servings for my fitness pal.

If there are 4 teaspoons in a scoop then 1 is equal to .25 servings.

You can sprinkle on anything but whey Protein need to be under 140 degrees or it breaks down and gets gloppy.

Things that you would add cheese to do better with whey Protein. Other food items soy protein tastes better.

Add after cooking is done.

The protein powders thicken what they are added to so make sure to add liquid if need to help with the consistency.

My nutritionist gave me a few "recipes":

- add 2 scoops unflavored Protein powder plus 1 can milk to 1 can reduced-fat cream of chicken Soup. Makes 2 servings.

- add 1 scoop to 1 cup very soft mashed potatoes. Makes 4 servings.

- mix 1 scoop with a little Water and add to ½ cup cottage cheese. Makes 2 servings

- cook ½ cup oatmeal and 1 cup skimmed milk; stir in 1 scoop Protein Powder.< /p>

Good luck!
