Pre-surgery jitters

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I just got word that I am approved for surgery. I am having mixed emotions. I am very glad on one hand. I know this is the change I need in my life. I am 28 years old and have been overweight most of my life. food is such a huge comfort for me and the thought of losing that is terrifying. I have been sad and depressed ever since hearing that I am approved. Sounds stupid right? Like I said, I know this will be life changing for me, for the better I am sure. I also do not have much support from my family. They are concerned and only are thinking of horror stories they have heard. Has anyone else dealt with these emotions? I am looking to have surgery the last week of July.

It's the exact same way for me. I have told limited family and friends. I know when my other friends, family and co-workers find out they are gonna have a fit. I can't help but feel that their motives are not genuine. I really think that some are jealous. I know many people see this as an "easy fix" and to be honest I used to feel the same way. I realize now how hard this is going to be.

Hi there! Congrats.

You are so young and it's so awesome you're doing this for yourself. I'm 44 years old - I went into this hoping that my only regret is that I didn't do this sooner. That is a true statement. I lost too many years to being overweight, unhealthy and unhappy.

Kudos to you for nipping this in the bud! I have no regrets - my life is awesome now!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
