4 weeks post op and have stalled.

Recommended Posts

I'm 4 weeks post-op (Gastric Sleeve) and have stalled it seems. I've lost 32 lbs since my surgery date of May 23, but can't seem to get below 224. I'm doing everything I know to do and will be sadly disappointed if I did this to only lose 32 lbs.

HELP!

Hello,

You have lost an average of 8 pounds a week! Have you ever done that in your life?? Give yourself a break, that is a huge loss. You may stall for a week or two and then you may drop another 8 pounds. I think it is way too soon for you to be worried. Hang in there!

HELP!

I am in the same boat. Today is four weeks and I have lost 27 lbs. I have not lost anything since 6/20. I am trying not to get frustrated and stay on program. I dont intake more than 400 calories and I walk 2 to 4 miles a day. My husband had surgery same day as me and he too has stalled. I say this to say, maybe its par for the course. Hang in there.

I wouldn't worry, although it sucks, this is just a stall. I went through some weeks with zero loss, only to turn around and have great results the following week. Keep doing what you know to do, i.e. stay active and follow your plan to a tee...the lbs. will drop!

By the way, 32 lbs, gone forever, ain't too shabby! Give yourself a little credit! :D

Good luck!

I guess it's a general consensus that you just stall at about the 4th week :-/

Today is my 1 month surgery date and stalled at 233 for 6 days. I've just accepted it now, the scale wore me down. They say eventually the stall goes away, so I'm learning patience and sticking to the program. That's all we can do.

I've read quite a few posts from those who have stalled at this point. I think I'm going to make my husband hide the scale so that I only weigh once a week. I've got myself weighing several times a day and am driving myself insane with it....lol.

I'll add my woe to the voices here today too - I'm 8 weeks out now and have 'only' lost 31 pounds. That's just not near enough! It's going so slowly i can hardly stand it, and my doc's suggestions sound too extreme for me to manage right now. (Two hours a day working out before Breakfast and/or go Paleo diet. Nope!) I never go over 800 calories a day, and always get Water and 60-70 g Protein. I can't believe it's this slow. Really!

That really does sound extreme. Hang in there...we're all in this together, especially when you consider that you've lost, roughly 4lbs a week. That's very good!

If you search some of the other posts on stalls many people break through by changing up their routines. Sometimes it's the food routine sometimes the workout routine.

Am just week 1 so hopefully won't have to worry for a little while

A lot of posts are around 3/4 week stall

I stalled at 3 weeks and as I am approaching my 4th I am still stalled-it is frustrating to stall so soon but after reading lots of posts on this web site a 3 week stall is normal.

Just gotta push through!

They really need to sticky one of these posts. Most people hit stalls pretty early, it seems like good info to put front and center on these forums :)

I'm 25 days post op, and stalled at 9 days out :( Only lost 10 pounds since surgery. VERY frustrating! Wishing this stall would break any time now!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
