I was just wondering when you can start having salads? I am 1 month post op.

You should ask your surgeon or dietician. Each practice has different guidelines. My surgeon doesn't allow any kind of raw veggies, including salad, until six months after surgery, but I know other practices have more relaxed timeframes.

I'd better stuff myself with salad before I start the pre-op diet. I will miss salad the most. I eat it everyday. I particularly love Jason's Deli salad bar & Sweet Tomatoes. Maybe I'll have a ticker that counts days without salad (smirk). I'm comforted to know that its temporary. I think I'll probably have to use Protein forever because there is no way I'll be eating enough meat to do the job. I hope to do a lot of juicing. I'll bet you can juice your salad if you can't wait.

I can have salad now at six months out and I cannot get enough of it! I was never a salad fan before sugery but now I am! I have found that I can get a cup or two of salad greens with some grape tomatoes (with a light italian dressing and very little) down in addition to my Protein (chicken or shrimp, whatever it happens to be) without any problem. Salad seems to take up so little room but is a tasty addition as long as I watch the Salad Dressing.

Three months after the sleeve my NUT said I was eating too much Protein. Told me to start immediately on salads and veggies. I was nervous (or terrified), but eating salads every day since without any problem, even raw carrots and raw celery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
