I'm still only three days post op but I'm thinking ahead for future food prep. For those of u tht weigh ur food do u recommend a certain scale and when weighing Protein do u weigh before or after it's cooked?

I'm still not sure what I'm going to do about food prep, but the whole reason I got the band is cause I never knew when to stop eating n always ate too much in one sitting. Is the food scale the right way to go? I've already started measuring my liquids and it's showing me tht I'm lacking a lot n need to increase my intake. But the measurement helps with the liquid so weighing my foods shouldn't be too rough right?

I really would appreciate some tips from food scale users and non scale users.

Some people use the little kids plates that are divided into 3 sections, they're usually in the dish section at Target, Walmart etc. Barbie, hello kitty, etc.

there are scales that will count Proteins, fats, total carbs, and calories etc. it's called eat smart, I got it through Amazon. while I was going through thelearning phase of eating solids and getting fills my doctor insisted I keep a food log with this info on it. and than we would discuss my food choices at appointments. it really helped to learn healthy choices.

I'm banded nearly 18 months and I still use a food scale at home. I tracked everything in myfitnesspal and stayed under 1,200 calories a day. As you can see from my ticker, this worked fantastic for me. Hell...my bariatric surgeon said I've totally blown the bell curve in that I've done so very well.

I'm grateful as can be. This band was life saving surgery for me...no joke. I was heading towards a life in a wheelchair if I didn't lose weight. I went from constant debilitating pain to being able to do almost anything now. I walk everywhere...and the cane I used for more than two years is now sitting in the corner of my bedroom. I leave it there so I can always see it and know how close I came to losing all mobility.

Some people can just eyeball and know when enough is enough. I needed more than that and if you do too, just remember to do what works for you.

Good luck!!

Hi there and congratulations on your surgery! I don't happen to use a scale but I do use small bowls and a long-handled baby spoon and shrimp fork when I'm at home. I love my little condiment dishes. For me, it's a volume thing, so knowing what bowl works well is a good way for me to measure. I am very conscious of eating Protein first with some veggies, etc. Also, I eat Greek yogurt maybe 4-5 times a week. I get the 100-calorie individual containers (even though I hate all that plastic) because the little cup is perfect for me to add in a few chopped walnuts, some chia seeds and if I'm really splashing out a little gluten-free Cereal. It's impossible to have too much as the little cup would overflow, so it keeps me honest. Yogurt would be a slider food for me if I didn't have the mix-ins. Oh, I also add in collagen for an additional 6 grams of Protein and that makes it thicker, too -- more time for my esophagus to signal the brain.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
