I'm still confused about meds post surgery. What do you take when you have a headache? Sinus congestion? Can't sleep?

Are we still able to digest these without complications?

As far as I know tylenol is all we can take over the counter. They have it in liquid form for adults too. Far as for sleep, I know I just seen a liquid unisom at Walmart. Not saying we always have to have liquids but for now, it works better for me. I'm only 5 wks out, so vets may have better answers.

Tylenol for pain. I had a gout problem in my toes from weight loss/too much Protein and have been faced with living in agony or taking meds that I was told would "eat my sleeve". I went to the ER, I went to my PCP, I called my surgeon (not his specialty lol), I went to a Rheumatologist. I was given NSAIDS (by all) we are not supposed to take. The drugs nearly killed me with vomiting and I was hospitalized. I have been fortunate to find a great compound pharmacist who has put me on herbal remedies and made me a believer. I am without pain finally after 5 1/2 straight months. My advice to you is to read everything you can on herbal remedies for the sake of your health. After everything I went through the famed Rheumatologist I went to last month added another (3 total) NSAID. I do not know what is wrong with these doctors frankly, but I am not risking my life with these terrible medicines. I just began Ester-C which is for the immune system. I read about it on BP. Best wishes everyone.

I just can't imagine never taking ibuprofen again. Right now I have an ear infection and that is all that helps. I'm afraid that's a bigger loss than any particular food. What's happens if I develop illnesses later in life that have a great deal of pain?

They gave us a prescription of liquid oxcontontin after surgery. That will soothe any pain. But that is a drug I do not ever want to take much of because it is very addictive. So we can take morphine and strong drugs, just not these over the counter things. This is one of the reasons I was upset about a 15 year old whose Mother was here and planned to have her sleeved. Most illnesses we will have can be treated with meds. The gout meds are just horrific in my opinion. There is an oil you warm for ear problems and put in your ear. That might help too. Best of luck.

I got bucked off my horse 3 weeks ago and literally landed on my face and right shoulder. We were on a steep hill so I then rolled ass over teakettle another 10 feet. I figured without ibuprofen I would be miserable. But I soaked in a hot bath when I got home and then took arnica homeopathic sublingual every 4-6 hours for a day and a half. My ribs were sore for a week, but surprisingly not as bad as I thought they would be, so maybe the arnica really did help.

Most cold meds contain Tylenol, so I think they are OK....I guess I would verify the ingredients and consult with your surgeon.

My mom can't take NSAIDS because of GI issues, so she takes resveratrol and traumeel for her fibromyalgia pain. ( yeah, she can't take Lyrica, either)

Feel better Kindle! Glad you are better. I took Lyrica for neuropathy prior to the sleeve. It caused severe blistering of my toes. Very scary.

This topic gives me something new to worry about  . Tylenol is contraindicated for my continuous glucose monitor, and I've only been using ibuprofen for years. I'm definitely going to look into homeopathic remedies. Thanks for all the info!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
