Plateau at 7 years post-op

Recommended Posts

I am 7 years post op and just found out today that my band recently slipped (minor slippage with no esophageal issues) so they've removed all the liquid from my band and told me I can't start getting filled again for two months to allow the band to try to correct itself. I'm frustrated because at 7 years post op I have lost 70 pounds, gained 40 back (totally my own fault) and lost it again (doubly frustrating, I could be 40 pounds lighter than I am now!)

I'm at a loss, I don't know what to do with myself, it's frustrating and depressing because I feel like I'm only sabotaging myself but at the same time I also feel like I'm not losing as much as I could be losing even with not making great eating choices. I need some support and someone to keep me in line and keep me motivated. And someone to tell me what to do! How do I break these cravings and stop stuffing my face with RUBBISH?!

I'm also concerned that now that the band is empty I will gain more weight.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

You lost 70 lbs in 7 years...gained 40 of it back...only to loose that 40 again...

When you lost that 70, then later lost the 40...what would you say was the "Key" to loosing weight?

If you had to give advice to someone else who has had lap Band surgery, on how to loose 70 lbs...what would you tell them?

What does it take....??

Having your saline removed can be a difficult ride. If there's no restriction or satiety, you're basically on a diet. Find a diet that works for you for the next 2 months? And stop buying rubbish? If it's not in your house, you won't crave it.

The 4 months after my surgery my band wasn't tight enough but I maintained my post surgery 12 lbs loss by concentrating on eating healthy food. I didn't allow myself to get so hungry I binged. It's funny how filling healthy nutritious food is, and how few calories good food, cooked the right way has.

Eat right. Easy for me to say I know. But, is there any other way if you want to stay healthy?

Thank you both very much for your response to my crazy rant!

Maybe I should give more detail, I don't actually purchase any rubbish, I know if I don't have it in the house I can't be tempted to eat it. However my company LOVES to do free lunches which is always pizza, bbq Pasta etc.seeing everyone around me with junk food at their desks is just too much temptation to not "just have one" or NONE.

Additionally, up until having the Fluid removed from my band it was next to impossible to eat raw fruits and veg. It was almost a guarantee that it would come back up again. When I know I'm going to put myself through vomiting and feeling crappy I don't eat the healthy stuff because honestly crap like bread and junk just stays down better.

I'm hoping that this band slippage will resolve itself and the tool will start to do what it's supposed to again. Not that I don't also have to try, I do of course it's not all on the band, it's only a tool.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
