Birth control after sleeve

Recommended Posts

I am six weeks out and was on ortho tri cyclin lo for about 10 yrs then had my daughter and right after decided for surgery, i have PCOS. I have read some horror stories about gaining all the weight back plus more after going on birth control, but I really feel like I need it not for birth-control reasons but for hormonal reasons, I am feeling very edgy . My husband is begging me to go back on it, because he says I'm unbearable , and I know in the back of my mind that I see it also. During the years that I took it I was successful with weight watchers etc so i dont feel like i gain weight from them but am afraid to if i start now. Any experiences u can share with me??

I have PCOS as well, and 8 weeks out, down 54 pounds. I've been taking Giovanni for years for PMDD due to PCOS. Weight gain has not been an issue. Can you switch meds?

I really like the Ortholo as I have been on it for years with great results, I had tried Yaz (if I'm not mistaken that's the brand for Gianvi) in the past and had horrible side effects so I prefer to stay in ortho low but I'm just worried about having unnecessary weight gain from it.... So I guess it's not like a written rule that you gain weight from it but I guess everybody's individual. I just feel like I've been through so much and tried so hard that to counteract it right now would just be silly.... I did get my period Once one week after surgery, and that was it, in the past I have never gotten that before without the pills....

I take bcp's too. I've often wondered if I could finally get to goal (11 lbs from it) if I stopped. Scared to tho. Scared of getting pregnat at 47 (expecting 1st grandson anyday now). It would be tragic. But Id also like to get to goal. Maybe that's what's preventing it?

I am on Ortho Tri Cyclin Lo and have been since surgery. I was able to lose 130 pounds in a year and reach goal while on it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
