Gaining weight after 1st fill and starting exercise!

Recommended Posts

Hi! I'm trying to be really optimistic here. I had my 1st fill last Thursday and I started going to the gym on Sunday and instead of loosing weight I'm gaining weight!! I had my surgery 05/08/14 and I've been loosing steadily about 1 or 1 1/2 lbs per week and I was happy with that. This week I've gained 2 lbs!!!

I assumed I would continue to loose weight, specially because I started working out.

You cannot always go by the scale. Make sure you are taking measurements as well. I measure myself about every 3-4 weeks. When you are working out you are gaining muscle and muscle weighs more than fat. There are a lot of people that do not even weigh themselves till they go to the doctor. Just keep your head up and you will be fine.

Thank you Chrissy! I did take my measurements the day of of surgery and again this morning so I can keep track of my inches lost which is what's really important.

@@mias76 don't worry friend. You have just been banded and you are still healing. The body's first reaction to stress is always inflammation. When that happens we tend to weigh more and the numbers on the scale go up. Right now to your body you have just put it through HUGE amounts of stress. It probably thinks you are dying. You are not eating what you used to, you have had major surgery, and now you are moving and going to the gym like you haven't consistently before. All of this to the body's natural instinct means WE ARE IN TROUBLE CONSERVE EVERY THING SHE'S GOING TO NEED IT!!

In reality you are doing it on purpose, but your instinctual body response does not know that. It will eventually catch up and the numbers will move in the other direction. Don't give up or lose hope, just keep doing what you are doing and following the Dr.'s orders.

The truth is that 1 pound of fat and 1 pound of muscle both equal 1 pound. Muscle does not weigh more then fat. However fat takes up more room then muscle. Muscle is lean and fat is very dense but they weight the same amount.

Keep up the good work and soon you will see movement in inches and numbers on the scale for your efforts!

Muscle does not weigh more than fat, a pound is a pound, but muscle takes up less space than fat, so you could be losing inches and not weight. Your body could be retaining Water or anything to make up those 2 little pounds.

Don't get down on yourself. You're making great steps to make yourself better. Do not let the scale dictate your every move. I'm trying hard to go by that, its hard, but it def makes this whole thing easier.

Can i ask what you are doing in the gym?

Try to get out of your mind this is a trip to skinnyville as the crow flies. It's not. Ever see the comic strip Family Circus(see below)? Ever take a dog on a walk? It will be up and down and sideways but mostly down.

Betty, I'm doing 20-30 min of cardio (elliptical) and 20-30 min of weights.

What do you think I should be doing?

I always tend to gain a little or stop losing when I first go back to working out. I think your body like objects to change lol. Give it time I usualy drop like 5lbs all of the sudden. Also, if you're gaining muscle that weighs more than fat but it's good because the more muscle you have the more calories you will burn. =)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
