Question for all of the ladies and gentlemen who have had the Gastric Sleeve procedure: How long AFTER the procedure was it before you were to your goal weight? I am going on two years and am still OVER 50lbs to go. Is this normal or should I consider going back to my surgeon and checking into have the Gastric Bypass performed, my surgeon stated prior to my procedure that this could be an option, however, I really can't afford to take the time off of work and it is just way to much stress on my body.

My eating habits have changed drastically and I am very active ( I am raising two grandchildren ages 8 & 5 ) I am also in the medical field and I work for a very busy Occupational Services facility. I don't stop moving until 10 pm. I walk, swim, ride bike, and I walk on a treadmill 3 days a week about 6 miles each time.

Please anyone out there with some advise and wisdom, PLEASE, I am getting desperate.

Thanks,

Lisa K

So many factors come into play. What weight did you start at? The heavier you started the longer it may take. Many people never get to their goal, the surgery is considered a success at 60-70% of excess weight lost. So if you had 100 pounds to lose a loss of 60-70 would be considered a success.

I have been very lucky. In seven months I am 16lbs from goal. I had 121 to lose.

I hope you eventually get to the goal you are looking for. I don't know how old you are, but I'm impressed! You eat much better and have probably lengthened your life considerably. You are able to be so active! That's a lot to be proud of!

Only 50 more lbs to lose? Hold tight and hang on. Change up your exercise routine, do something different that your body is not used to. Are you eating too few calories? Is your body in starvation mode? Talk with your nutritionist. It seems a shame to have to have surgery for the last 50 lbs. We all lose at different rates. Some people lose wt faster than others. I'm sure that whatever you chose you will be successful because look how far you are from the start line.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
