Calories to maintain post-op... Figured out maybe?

Recommended Posts

In a previous thread, I was bemoaning the fact (ok, whining a bit) about the fact that my nutritionist wouldn't give me a straight answer as far as how many calories (et cetera) I was supposed to be sticking to post-surgery in order to lose weight...

Being the data geek that I am however, I might have been able to figure it out myself but wanted some confirmation of my thoughts.

Over the past several weeks, I've been "stair stepping" my weight loss. Between 7-10 days to lose a pound or so. Fat is burned off at a typical rate of 3500 calories per pound, right?

Looking over my MFP log, I seem to be consuming between 800 to 1200 calories per day, so given the idea of sitting on a 10-day plateau, running an assumed 350 calorie deficit, can I presume that my post-op "maintain weight" calorie count is somewhere between 1200 and 1300 calories?

I know Protein and exercise are more important. I'm now getting my Protein (between 70 to 110 grams per day) but I still have physical limitations (and mental ones too) that keep me from exercising as I should.

Thoughts?

Wayne

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
