I am almost 4 months post op and every now and then I have days that I am not really hungry but I have the major munchies. Today was one of those days. Thank goodness I have remained good but it is hard... B)

I've felt that, too, but I think all mine is just habitual. Before surgery, I was just always eating something so it feels weird not to be eating.

Last night walking by the table, there was a bag or tortilla chips and I have to admit, I ate one. (God, forgive me! lol) I chewed and sucked on it until it was practically liquified but I just didn't want to pass it up. I'm going to have to make sure to put stuff like that away out of site. And maybe just ALWAYS have a bottle of something in my hand to drink instead of tossing a chip in.

My rule of thumb: No Protein? No touch, no eat. This excludes almost all the munchies I want.

I like that rule of thumb. Im so ready to get to the end of all the red tape so I can get a surgery date. I know me....I will be too afraid NOT to follow the dietary guidlines. Im loving reading all this good information. Thanks guys

I love that rule of thumb! I think I might have to abide by that as well. Way to easy to fall off the wagon and slip back into old habits. Great suggestion!

I eat some fresh fruit but it has no Protein. I still get about 80 gr protein in every day. I have a 20 oz cup I drink my Water out of. Yesterday when I had the munchies I must have refilled it 7-8 times

CrunchO's high Protein Snacks. Shaped like cheerios and crunchy like Muncho's, they come in BBQ or Sour Cream & Onion flavor. 130 cals, 12gr protein. You can buy them on Amazon. I also like humus w/humus chips - lower protein than CrunchO's but higher than most other snack foods. Single serve packs sold in my grocery store for $1.99.

I couldn't find then on Amazon either, but did find then here http://www.bariatricfoodsource.com/Crunch_O_s_p/crunch-o.htm. shipping was $4.95 depending on where you live. I'm on day 3 of my pre-op liquid diet now, but will be ordering some for after surgery snacking when I'm back on solids. Thanks for the suggestion!

I'm sorry! I don't buy them on Amazon but someone told me they were available there. I apologize for incorrect information! I actually buy mine from Faunce Corner Nutrition in Dartmouth MA (located very close to Exit 12b off RT195). They carry a lot of nutritional supplements, Protein bars, Protein Snacks, and Vitamins for WLS patients and seem to cater primarily to them, although they do have some other types of nutritional products available.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
