kerweav 24 Posted June 23, 2014 For some reason the doctor told me to stay away from gum this first week. That's all I want! For me it's a life saver, keeps my mind off of wanting something to eat. I wonder why they won't let me have it? Accidentally swallowing it, maybe? Surely one little piece or sugar free gum won't ruin my success?!?

Surely one little piece or sugar free gum won't ruin my success?!? Its the swollowimg they worry about. You are freshly fixed and stapled and if u accidentally swollow gum u could cause problems with ur incisions. I too lived on my gum to keep my mouth busy but i made it thru, so can u. If u are doing all u can to get in ur Protein amd Water then that will fill all ur time. Just drink water when u feel u need something. Honestly i was never hungry after surgery. I just drank lots of waterin between my Protein Drinks. At about day 5 i was drinking 80-90g of protein and drinking my 64 oz of water. You can do it without the gum. Just find new ways to stay busy and refocus ur efforts from food.< /p>
Dr-Patient 830 Posted June 23, 2014 (edited) Also... chewing gum may cause you to swallow more air, hence expanding your stomach, putting tension on your stomach staple line. Suck on some Popsicles. They'll help your need for something sweet in your mouth, and hydrates you. Edited June 23, 2014 by Dr-Patient
kerweav 24 Posted June 23, 2014 Oh! I don't want to do that! I had a hard time finding Liquid Protein that I liked, but GNC carries Isopure, which is a life saver! Ok...you convinced me...I can handle not chewing gum. Thanks! ???? 1 #9grammy reacted to this
BeagleLover 1,020 Posted June 23, 2014 I had second thoughts about putting my 2 cents in, especially after you seem to have made your mind up already. Sometimes, that gum can give you diarrhea. 'nuf said.
