12 weeks- attempt @ lettuce fail

Recommended Posts

I'm 12 weeks post surgery today. According to my surgeon's nutrition guidelines, I could start on raw veggies today. I just tried eating a salad. Boy oh boy, was my stomach grumbling at me when I ate lettuce! I was able to eat the cucumber and carrots just fine. But, the romaine wasn't as well accepted. It didn't hurt my stomach, but the noises coming from my stomach made it obvious I should hold off on trying it again anytime soon. When have you all been able to eat lettuce w/o issues?

I love veggies so much. Hopefully I will be juicing during my liquid phase. Have you seen that documentary about juicing called "sick, fat and almost dead?" It's no Netflix. Check it out if you can. When I'm ready to phase in veggies, I might start with blending them in a blender. My 12 weeks post op will be in Oct. I would love to enjoy a salad for my birthday.

I hope it didn't make you feel sick.

I watched Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead on Netflix and wanted to try veggie juice. Started off using the Nutri Bullet but that just creates mushed veggies; I had to strain it through muslin to get the juice! After that I bought a juicer which does a really good job, though the preparation and clean up are quite time consuming.

In the documentary he made it look so easy, with that juicer on the tailgate of his car! There must have been a large support vehicle close by with a small army of assistants, chopping, juicing and cleaning non-stop.

About the lettuce. My nutritionist said to eliminate it from my life. She said it does not go well with the sleeve and it has no nutritional value.

She said to try spinach leaves if you want a green salad. I only am repeating what I heard because I am post op one week, but I will trust her about that for a while.

Zane's Mom and Bec101- I wasn't warned about lettuce, but I can definitely see that there's no need for it. I had been looking forward to a salad for awhile, but now I'm pretty sure I can get by without lettuce in my future.

I am 6 months post and cant tolerate lettuce either. I can eat any other veggie or fruit and am fine. I love to sneak my veggies and fruits in as my Snacks and eat Protein packed meals. I use nonfat greek yogurt and ranch packets to make a good dip and then eat them that way. Not seeing salads in my future ever again since i dont really like spinach. My tummy makes lots of noise when i eat fruit or veggies that are Water packed. Good luck to u!

I am 16 months post-op. Love lettuce, salad, spinach, etc. no problem eating any of it. I was never told not to eat lettuce or that it has no nutritional value. It probably depends on the type of lettuce. Anyway, I don't recall when I started eating salad exactly but I think it was closer to 6 months out than 6 weeks.

I know every NUT is different, but in my handbook they gave me, it say specifically no romaine because of the stalks. And to stick with spinach and the baby greens for salads. I'm only 4 wks out but counting down to my 6 weeks so I can try a salad!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
