Hi youtalk,

I am from Melbourne and scheduled for surgery on 5/21 with Dr. Fusco

Oh that's so awesome, I just got some literature from his office today. I'm going to look it over, and see about moving forward.

So did they make you jump through hoops to get the operation?

No hoops. I went to the seminar at the beginning of April, which is a requirement and then made my decision. I am self-pay so that helps. I scheduled my PCP (done yesterday), nutritionist (last Monday) and then psychologist (last Wednesday). I spoke with Kathy Blair at Lifeshapes and she will schedule pre-op appts. with Dr. Fusco, etc. 12 days before surgery.

I think it has been very easy up to this point and I am very excited.

Have you been to the seminar yet?

No I'm actually going to the seminar May 3rd.

What is the PCP?

And what types of things did the nutritionist and psychologist talk about? So you haven't even seen the DR yet? (about your personal situation)

PCP-Primary Care Physician. I will see Dr. Fusco within 12 days before surgery. He is the pretty much the last one you see, because they want to make sure that you have been approved for the surgery by everyone else first.

The nutritionist basically tells you what your diet will consist of for the first 6 weeks after surgery. Also what diet to follow 3 days before your surgery. It was great info!

The psychologist just makes sure that you know what you are getting into. That you understand what will happen. Also talks a little about your family history, why and when you starting having weight issues.

I actually spent more time with the nutritionist than the psychologist.

Well, that great about the seminar. That's just next week.

I know the seminar is right around the corner, I'm excited slash nervous in the same breath. But I think I'm ready to kick this extra weight.

So how have you been? Did you have a fill yet? Where was the procedure done? and how did you feel the next day?

I'm sorry for all the questions, but you dealth with the same doctor and everything as me. Thank you so much for all your help!!

Thanks Melissa - I sent an email to the office, so probably won't hear from them until Monday - but I sure hope I can get in as well... it would be nice not to have to wait another month!

You get banded on May 21st, right? Very exciting! I can't wait to hear all about it!

Mary

Hi Tom and Melissa -

Tom I will see you on Thursday! And, what do you mean by 'which bank' did Melissa go through? For financing... or something else?

Thanks!

Well if your self-pay you can get financing through a local bank. Lynn the office manager told me a couple of the local credit unions will finance the procedure.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
