everyone is different, i was lucky , not much pain at all, i did have to sleep on recliner for a few days but thats because i sleep on my side and thats the side my stitches were on . best advice is to drink Water and walk as much as you possibly can. you may have some gas pain so walking will help the gas pass. a good trick for getting your fluids in is to set a timer for every 15 mins and drink a shot glass of Water. and sip sip sip slowly. we are all here to help and give tips. this site is great as you will see. just stick with what dr. tells you and you will be fine. good luck and remember this is going to be your new birth day , a new beginning.

As Patsy said, everyone is different, but from my experience:

Pain was helped by drugs at the hospital but walking helped the most! I walked inside my house and increased the walk by a half a min to a minute every time I got up. Try to walk just a little every time you get up for any reason.

Don't worry too much about calories, Protein etc. for the first couple of days. Concentrate on sipping slowly every few mins. I used the same trick that patsy mentioned. Drink every 15 mins with the timer. I had Nausea in the hospital but the meds helped with that.

Don't be afraid to ask for help! When in doubt call you doctor. Post here on the site. Ask your family to help you out!

One more thing. No matter how bad it seems the first few days, it does get better! Good luck!

Yup agree with all above. I too was lucky, no pain, just gas and bloating which is a bit uncomfortable. The MOST important thing is WALK WALK WALK! I cannot stress it enough. That is the ONLY thing that really will help with the gas and bloating. Walk every chance you get! I would even walk overnight, if I felt bloated then I would get up and walk.

The 4th day after surgery I actually felt "better",then 7 days out... you really start to feel normal and when you begin to eat soft foods, you feel amazing and like you got this!

Good luck, stay positive, you'll be soooooo happy in a few weeks!!! Good luck and WALK !!!!!!!!

Good advice from patsy1947. I agree totally. Drink lots of liquids. I had a hernia repair too so I couldn't handle cold things right away, but about a week out popsicles were so good and I still have them every day. I drank a lot of Isopure Grape Frost, the only flavor I like a lot this first two weeks.

As far as pain, it is easily manageable with the meds your Dr. will give you. I only had to take mine for about 10 days and then tapered off. At one month, I don't even feel like I had surgery as far as my incisions go. They healed nicely.

I also had to sleep in my recliner for about 10 days. Once I got my staples out of my incisions and the tape off, I could sleep on my side in bed. Before that your abdomen area is swollen.

Hope all goes well! Keep us updated and feel free to ask questions. I know it helped me to feel calm before my surgery. Worrying doesn't help and everyone is different. Just stay positive and all will go well. In the hospital walk every time you get up. It helps tremendously get rid of the gas and get your body moving again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
