Back to Work 11 Days Post-Op - Bad Idea!

Recommended Posts

Today is my 1st day back at work, 11 days post-op and I'm regretting it! Unfortunately, because I boldly dismissed concerns that I wouldn't be fit to return so quickly, no arrangements were made for extra coverage so I have to tough this out. It's only 10:30, I'm exhausted and my large incision hurts. I am an admissions officer at a community college and consider my job very sedentary. I didn't realize just how many times I get up to go to the printer, to assist a student, etc. I'm not as sedentary as I thought! Then, there is the exhaustion. I could lay my head on my desk and take a nap. My advice to those who have the option of taking more time off is... take it! If anyone has returned to work quickly after surgery and has any tips to offer, they would be appreciated. It is going to be a very long day!

Thanks for the tip so others can avoid going back to work too early. I hope you feel better soon. Best wishes.

Yes, I had my surgery on a Thursday and went back to work the following Monday. I thought I could do it with no problems, but found that I was so incredibly tired, that I had to do half days for part of the week.

There seems to be a lot of variation in recovery time. Some are fine in 4-5 days. Some need 3 weeks. I don't know how you can predict what you will need.

I was off 4 weeks I don't think I could have comfortably went back sooner. I would have problems setting in a chair . I would have to walk around to feel better. I guess it just depends on what type of working conditions you would be returning to.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
