Colonoscopy next week .... oh joy ....

Recommended Posts

Thanks to a bout of diverticulitis in May, my surgery was postponed till August 13th (originally scheduled June 17th). One of the requirements was a visit to a colon-rectal specialist. Did that and received the all clear for my procedure so I was all set to begin the waiting game again however the doctors office called after receiving my CAT scan results from the hospital and advised they wanted to do a colonoscopy so that is now scheduled for Monday June 30th. Not at all happy but (ha) willing to do what is necessary to reach my goal. I hear the prep is the worst part and I am definitely not looking forward to it .... I know its just a small bump on my journey but this procedure actually has me more anxious then the actual WLS. Strange but true .... not much to say really, just venting a tad .... having to postpone my bypass was hard but now this? OK, pity party over lol .....

I've had a couple and YES, the prep SUCKS!!!! It's just massively inconvenient as you spend most of the evening and night just sitting on the toilet and your legs will fall asleep. But, it's not painful or anything, nothing to be scared of... just nasty. But at least you'll be in private. The first time I had one done I was in the hospital with a roommate and they brought a portable potty in. I was SO embarrassed to have someone hearing all that!

If you don't have a padded tiolet seat, now may be the time :P

But seriously, they are not a big deal at all. You get "cleaned out" over a couple of hours. It's an inconveneice, but like someone else said, you're not in pain, and it's not like you're sick with a flu or stomache bug.

Then the next day you get a nice "nap", wake up and go home. Then you can focus on the bigger picture at hand, your WLS in August. We'll be recovering around the same time :)

Thinking happy thoughts for a normal/negative outcome to your exam!

Just a follow up to my original post .... Had my colonoscopy this morning and surprise surprise, it was pretty uneventful. The prep, while foul tasting and a tad nauseating, was the worst part. The procedure itself was a piece of cake. Doc told me all looked good and my WLS was still a go and he would see me in 5 years. Thanks for all the advise .........

Had mine and it was a breeze ... yes the prep sucked... but on a side note they did remove three benign polyps. TMI? Probably - but we are talking colonoscopies here... :-)

They removed several from me as well. No mention if they were benign or not ..... no mention of a biopsy either ...... huh .... I will have to call the office tomorrow and check into that ..... would probably be good information to know lol ... glad yours went well :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
