Trial and Error over need advice

Recommended Posts

I need help. Surgery on Wednesday June 18th late afternoon. No drinks nothing all day.

Thursday thought the world was ending. Sick and everything made me want to get sick. smells, Water, medicine

Friday ok day felt like a human

Sat good except not knowing how long in between sips of Water and sips of food. Is the 30 minute no drinking rule in effect for the liquid phase?

Sunday good day except I think I had too much water in a short period of time.

Not doing well on the Protein front. The smells of the Protein shakes have made me sick. I gulped them in the pre diet to get them down cant do that now.

I am down a lot of weight and that is great but I don't know how I can make it to the next phase which with my Dr. is July 18th for pureed foods.

Also have had bad pain in my right hamstring getting better but hurt real bad right after surgery.

Oh yeah I am not very tired either. Thought I would be without Protein and stuff.

Thanks for any advice,

Rodney

I hate to be so dense, but what is your question? Is it Protein? Do you want suggestions? I think what you are experiencing this early is quite normal.

Are you getting the walks in? I don't know why those things work so well, but they do. Maybe it will help with the hamstring.

I admitted to my PA that I never got all Protein in and she seemed unconcerned, she said sometimes it helps w/ hair, sometimes it doesn't so they don't really know what to think about that one - depends on the person. Well, she not say she was unconcerned, but this was not news to her (I'm not the only one) and I'm doing fine. At my three months they'll do a blood test to check Vitamins and stuff. I'll be curious about that one!

Hey, I tried. :) Could not do the textures and then I found Isopure, worked for the first 12 drinks, now the second 12 just sit there. I'm sick of them.

Just worry about getting your Water in at this point. Most of the rules dont apply until you are back at least on squishy food.< /p>

I have a hard time with the Protein Shakes, the smell turns my stomache, then I found Isopure. The grape and rasberry are both tolerable and if you order them online you will save money and shipping is free...good luck.

I couldn't stand to drink the Premier Protein after surgery but (I'm 6 weeks post of as of today) I can now tolerate them again. I found that the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup Protein Drink (powder) is very good (just needs a bit of salt) & settled my stomach. The other Protein Drink powder is Syntrax nectar. I get it at The Vitamin Store & you can get it online. They sell that in individual serving sizes so you can try them & see what you like. The vanilla Torte is so good. My favorite. Also, I see the Isopur drink that has 40 gms of Protein being talked about. I bought 3 (different flavors) & ended up pouring them out. Most disgusting thing I have tried. My taste buds totally rejected this stuff. Also, if you figure the 20 oz bottle this comes in & break it down to a 10 oz size, the protein amount is only 20 gms. That's less than other Protein drinks. I drink a Protein shake every morning when I get up & that starts me on a good day with getting my protein in. I'm still having trouble getting in my Water, even with Crystal Lite in it.

I was in the same boat as you with the Protein drinks Rodney! I liked them pre-surgery and gulped them down without a problem. Post surgery just the smell of them made me gag. I gagged a few down the first couple of days but just couldn't do it anymore. My surgeon recommended the unflavored powder but it still didn't agree with me. I think it was the thickness of the drink or something idk. My surgeon also suggested Isopure so I bought a couple. I opened the first one and tried it and it was the most disgusting thing I have ever put in my mouth! It was really gross. I returned the other two bottles I bought.

I struggle with my Protein but greek yogurt has a good amount in it so I try to have that and other things like cheese and such. I am almost 2 months post op. You could try the unflavored powder to see if you like it but I would suggest getting a sample packet first so you're not stuck with an entire tub of it if you don't like it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
