Weird Toddler Mommy Question about recovering

Recommended Posts

Okay - I have a toddler (she'll be 3 this week coming). And halfway through the night, she likes to climb in bed with me and the hubby and sleep the rest of the night with us. Of course, one of her favorite places to lay is right on mommy's chest / stomach. With all that I'm hearing about the port being so... tangible - will this be something I'll have to stop forever? Or just while I'm healing? I really don't want to screw up our bonding but... being healthy and living longer is definitely way up higher on the priorities.

Thanks for any information you can offer!

it's just temporary. I sleep on my stomach now.

Hello! I am 3 days post op from lap-band. My stomach area is sore and tender and I don't think I could be comfortable with anything on there right now.

With that being said (and I am mother of 4 daughters) I don't think you will have any trouble letting your daughter know even though she is little/young now, mommy has an owie/ouchy and take a little snuggle right next to you instead.

More importantly stop worrying, somehow it always works out and you bond in so many ways. This will not slow you down, just open a new door.

Good luck!

Colleen

Here's the update on this - I'm 2 days post op and I've shown my daughter my "ouchies" and she has acknowledged that it looks pretty bad, "WOW mommy, you have a big booboo... can I kiss it to make it better?" So that's positive - but she's making a negative connection between when she tries to jump on me or run into me head first with my reactionary cringe... I think she thinks I hate her. :=< . She took it personal the first night and now she just kind of avoids me. The few times I've broken the rule and actually picked her up or sat her in my lap, she made me pay for it (kneed or elbowed me in the stomach). So i won't be doing that again soon. But I hope I can reverse whatever she's set in her mind about why mommy won't pick her up / lay with her / let her cuddle.

*sigh* it's all a process.

You'll be snuggling again in no time.....just be careful picking her up as you have stitches and don't want to prolong recovery. Glad to hear you are doing well!
