Post Op internal hemorrhoids...

Recommended Posts

I searched for information on this forum and online for information on the topic. I found nothing and that is why I am sharing my story.

I had my sleeve surgery Monday, June 16 and everything has been going great. I am happy to report the scare last night had nothing to do with the surgery itself but rather a bad case of internal hemmorhoids. I finally had a bowel movement yesterday and though I was bleeding internally when I looked down and saw a large amount of blood in the toilet. I rushed to the ER and underwent blood tests, and even a rectal exam. Ugh. Turns out it was internal hemorrhoids. The doctor prescribed a suppository and I am doing just fine.

I am looking forward to the next phase of the post op diet - since I had a hiatal hernia, I have to remain on phase 1 for 15 days, not 10. Any suggestions as to why? That is the one question I forgot to ask my doctor.

Thanks!

I had a hiatal hernia repaired also but haven't had any issues. I'm 6 weeks post op today & still on soft/pureed foods but hopefully when I see my doctor on Wednesday she will let me go on solid foods. I never thought about the hernia being the reason my doctor had me on soft/pureed foods for 4 weeks until I read your post. I was wondering why other doctors allowed their patients to go onto solid foods sooner than me. Thanks for the info. Glad everything turned out OK for you. It's only going to get better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
