Is it best to go back to liquids after a mess up?

Recommended Posts

I was doing very well until I noticed that I can swallow larger types of food. I wanted to see exactly what would go down and almost everything prior to surgery could. I am supposed to have my first fill this week. Should I go back to liquids already? I don't think I'm psychologically ready to handle food. TIA for your advice.

Many of us were able to eat as before surgery. Till your band is adjusted it's just another diet.

Going back to liquids serves no purpose. Use this time to fill up on healthy food. Protein first then veggies.

I'll try but I need some good strategy to remember to stop at the first sign of satiety.

You can also weigh out your food till you know the signs of satiety. I saw Despina during one of my first post op visits and she suggested I try it. So for lunch and dinner, I usually do 3 oz Protein, 1/2 cup veggies, 1/4 cup of carbs.

I still weigh out food when I'm home. I stay at or around 1,150 calories daily and I've lost all my excess weight doing it this way. Eventually you will know the signs of satiety but for now, you might want to try this.

you likely won't feel the fullness yet. at this stage in your progress you need to measure your food. and be hungry most of the time. head games are at their strongest at this stage. eat healthy and get into the habit to eat Protein first. vegetables second. watch your calorie intake.

Thank you for your down to earth advice. I survived this phase without gaining weight and just had my first fill.

Looks like you were recently banded?

If so, the best thing to do is regular visits to your Dr. with honest reports about how you're doing.....it is his/her goal to be sure the band is doing what he/she intended it do.

I would not second guess anything at this point....after a year or 2 you will get to know all the little idiosyncrasies about YOUR band, in regards to you and not anyone else's experiences....all are different., and it's important to learn to know and listen to your band....

What I may tell you what I do in particular situations, may not be true for you...and can even cause harm....

I have learned it's one thing for veterans to share war stories, and it's another thing for those just starting out....that's why this forum can get very confusing with so many conflicting views...

BTW, after surgery, even after my first fill, I started to gain weight...Dr, said to me "No big deal" until we get the band and me, adjusted just right...took around 4-6 months, and everything has been smooth sailing ever since....that was over 3 years ago....

So stick with your Dr.....ask him/her these type of questions.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
