Jessiegirl30 149 Posted June 22, 2014 So at 11 weeks post op I am trying more and more different foods and here are some of my observations. Before surgery my nutritionist told me tastes would change and I was like yeah right ... But they kind of have .. My husband had some fries from McDonald's so I ate one it was disgusting ... I spat it out all it tasted like to me was a mouth full of grease .. Prior to surgery I could have easily eaten 2 large serves and thought nothing of it.. Except yummy salty fatty goodness (lol) I was craving a pie ( mince and cheese) so I thought I would try a little bit I took the top off and ate some of the mince it was great !! Then jb thought I would try a little of the pastry ... That was awful agin like the fries it just tasted like crap ... Also there is this indian snack called chewda which I used or love I tried it had to throw it away it was so awful So yes my tastes certainly have changed in that respect I no longer crave the salty fatty foods I used to eat which is a good thing !! However I can not eat bread at all any type of bread it doesn't sit well with me and leaves me feeling heavy and gassy which my nurse says is common and she says some people can never eat bread ... That is taking some getting used to. Overall I am more happy with what I can and can't eat now and how much I can manage , also last week I upped my exercise just like the doctor told me to do so that's good except today I have gout ... Caused by tomatos but yeah things are okay. I went and visited my family this past weekend and I saw my sister and she must weigh at least 330lbs now :-( I felt really bad for her because I know what it's like and also she has been turned down for the surgery twice now because she doesn't meet the requiments :-( also on a personal level I don't think she is the right head space at the moment for it yet either. That's what I have learnt is that you really need to be in the right head space for this surgery otherwise you will just be sad and depressed and it won't work .. Anyway that's it Monday ramblings over 1 BeagleLover reacted to this
joatsaint 2,814 Posted June 22, 2014 My taste buds changed too. But I wonder if it was from the surgery or if the change came because I cut sugar out of my diet for over a month?
GettingBackToNormal 20 Posted June 23, 2014 I think it was the surgery for me. The Protein Drinks I was drinking before surgery tasted so sweet I couldn't stand them post surgery.

abrad6 0 Posted July 12, 2014 Hi I am 3weeks post op and my taste buds have changed. Nothing tastes like its supposed to and even Water tastes funny... I am having the same problem. I am almost 4 weeks out & am starting to find all foods don't taste good or even smell good. I am really struggling with getting in my Protein everyday because all the Protein Shakes tastes pretty bad. Unfortunately, my energy level has tanked because of my lack of protein. I know how bad this is but am really repulsed by all the liquids & puréed foods. If anyone has any tips please let me know!!!!
