Been almost three years since my surgery

Recommended Posts

We'll I thought I could check in and share my story as when I started to research the sleeve surgery I ended up here and read all the wonderful success stories, so here is mine.

I had diabetes, on insulin, uncontrolled, a1c was at the lowest of 9.2. High blood pressure, polycythemia, nerve damage in my legs, etc

We'll my regular doctor told me not to have the sleeve, but if did anyway.

Today I stay at 185 pounds, I'm 6 1 , it's the weight I went into the Air Force in 1977! I eat anything I want, I don't eat what anyone would call healthy. Lots of red meat, candy, bread, etc

I can't tell you how the digestive process works after surgery but I can tell you that 2 weeks ago I had new labs done, now mind you a few nites ago I had 6 ice cream sandwiches for a evening meal, lol

My wife was on me to get those labs done as she says I eat terribly. We'll my cholesterol was 92! Good cholesterol way up, triglycerides way down, bp 120 over 72.

My doctor is amazed at this. I gave him a recap of my daily meals and he laughed, shook his head and said, well whatever your doing, it works!

I feel wonderful and so much energy. What can I say?

I would do it in a heartbeat again

So let me get this straight. You came here to brag that you've lost weight by eating as unhealthy as you can? Congrats on the weight loss but your story is hardly an inspiration to anyone.

Congratulations on your good fortune! Not everyone could eat like that and keep the weight off :) i know that is part of what got me to where I am today. I hope you have continued good health!

Uhmmmm....good for you?

Congrats on the weight loss and blood numbers. I sincerely hope you are able to maintain that as you get older. But really, six ice cream sandwiches for dinner after diabetes and WLS? I also hope that was an irregularity in diet and that you care more about your health than that.

Royboy, let's face it, in some attic, somewhere, is a picture of you looking a little portly. I kinda hate that you're doing so well while being so very naughty. But, then there's this other part that, I'll admit it, is turning slightly green. A nice shade of green, mind, but I can't live green. Geez, back to Protein and Water for me.....

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
