Tender and painful incision please help

Recommended Posts

I am 8 days post op and I had pain in the side incision where they took the stomach out from but that's better today. But my lower middle incision which wasn't hurting at all since the past five days is now v tender. Like it hurts if touched even a little but and not the complete incision just the left side of it.

Did anyone experience this?

Tenderness is usually pretty normal, but I think that since it seems to be getting worse rather than better, you should have it checked out by a medical professional. Either your surgeon or your primary care physician should be able to help you.

Is it hard when you touch it? warm or hot?

I got an infection in one of my incisions and it was a week out before we knew it. It was very painful and tender and it was hard (almost like knotted scar tissue). It burst (luckily out rather then in), I had to do 3 weeks of antibiotics, and my husband had to pack and dress the incision. All turned out well.

Please have it checked. My only real symptom was pain and it could have been way worse if I did not go to the MD. Better to have it check and it be nothing, then to let it go and it turn bad.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
