I have really messed up with the amount and what I eat ....

Recommended Posts

Hi to all,

I have really messed up for the past, I don't know, maybe two weeks. I stopped tracking what I eat. I didn't measure out, I didn't watch too carefully what I ate, I just knew that my stomach would tell me if it was the wrong thing or too much. Well, tonight I started "sliming" and then got sick. I feel so bloated and I am sooooooo mad at myself for not watching what I was doing, and I am in tears.

I had my Lap Band Surgery 12/6/2013, and after three fills, the last one in April, I thought I was doing well and in the green zone. I don't know what happened, and why I got so complaisant, but I just started eating, and I guess sort of went back to the old habits. I realize that I should not of weighed right now, (7:00 at night), but I have gained 4 lbs. What a wake up call. Did I already stretch out my pouch? I will call the DR's office Monday morning, but I don't want to go another day without discussing this with someone in the know.

Like I said, I have been going on eating like a lot 3-4 cups maybe??? I don't know...I didn't keep track anyway did I already do irreversible damage to the pouch? Has it already stretched out? Grrr I can't believe I have been this reckless ..after how good I've been and weight I have lost....If anyone can answer and help me I would appreciate it. Is it just that I need another fill? The last fill I had in April, I thought was the last one I would need. I need some answers. LOL I am really stressing.

Thank you in advance,

evh

I can relate.

I did so well yesterday. But last night, I was hungry. I really goofed. Went to DD and ate four donuts. I hadn't had a donut in months, never mind four!

Today's another day and I resumed my routine. Wasn't the end of the world but I know wasn't worth it. And no, I'm waiting a few days to step on the scale.

Second fill scheduled for Thursday. Looking forward to it

Relax! No harm no foul. Just get back on the bandwagon. Most all of us have fallen several times and it's no biggy.

Now if you're eating 4 cups of steak or chicken I might be worried? What have you been eating? Most bad foods are sliders so no harm to your pouch.

eva:

When you fall of the horse you get back on and keep riding. We've all fallen at one time or another. We are fighting a lifetime of bad eating habits and you can't expect to get it right all the time. You just have to keep getting back on the horse. I am doing great, but it's still a battle. Even when I'm not hungry I find myself standing in front of the refrigerator just looking inside for something to put in my mouth. I have to remind myself that I'm not hungry and look for something else to do. Wishing you the best.

Good morning,

Thank you for responding to my desperate post. I don't feel quite as bad this morning, but when I stepped on the scale and saw it was up by 4 lbs...I knew I was in trouble. This morning it is up 3, but I will get it back down again. I don't know why I haven't been measuring or even thinking of the consequences. I just ate and ate,

I didn't eat chicken or red meat, I gorged on home made goulash!!!! I must of eaten at least 4 cups (which in itself is crazy, as why would my pouch hold that much? That was my biggest worry....that my pouch has stretched, and I was in big trouble, but none of you seemed to think that was an issue. Do you know if it does stretch?

Anyway, I do feel better this am, and I will call the DR tomorrow and see if I can get in for a fill, if they think it is necessary.

This is an awesome site, when I woke this am, I wondered if anyone had replied, and was so pleased to see so many responses. Yep, back on the horse that I fell off of....and off we go again.

Thanks so much,

evh

Goulash is a slider food and will slide right through the band. Believe me, if you were to stretch your pouch in one sitting, the pain would be unbearable.

Remember, your stomach is still there and can still inflate to where it was before surgery. The band won't stop you from overeating if that's what you want to do. As long as you eat foods that slide through the band, you can eat cups and cups of food. It's the solid foods like animal Protein and bread that take time to find their way through the band.

And the amount of carbs and salt you consumed will cause you to retain fluids, so most of that 4 lbs is mostly Water retention.

When you have the right fill, your appetite will be dimmed and you won't be fighting against that. Great to get in to see the doctor to assess for fill -- s/he will have all the info they need when you tell about the goulash. Meanwhile try not to be a slave to the scale. There are many reasons we can be up in weight. Get walking, get to the doctor, and pat yourself on the back for everything you're doing,

Everyone,

I feel like the original poster above. I am at six weeks out of surgery tomorrow and I am getting my first fill tomorrow. I am nervous. I have struggled with my appetite being basically normal, my port feeling weird when I sleep, cravings from what I used to eat, struggling in general and just feeling like I'm always eating too much and the hunger takes over my brain and before I know it I've eaten a ten piece mcdonalds nuggets. Am I horrible??? For about two weeks I've really felt like I don't even have a band. A typical day for me: Breakfast the 3 mini chicks at chick fil a with the hashbrowns and then for lunch I might have like 4 slices of turkey from the public deli, sliced very thin and a piece of cheese and maybe at most a half of a cup of mashed potatoes, then for dinner I might have 6 fish sticks and 1/2 a cup of green Beans and maybe a mitts applesauce. Am I doing things all wrong!?!?!? I'm seriously worried about my appointment tomorrow. Help!!!

You're in Bandster Hell and very few of us escape it. Once your band is adjusted properly you won't feel so hungry and won't be able to eat like you have been. But, once you start feeling restriction/satiety, you should stop eating the junk food like chick filet, mashed potatoes, fish sticks and fast food. Most of what you're eating is highly processed foods.

Go back to liquids only for 5 days then to light foods, yogurts, Soups, small bites of food for another 5 days. YOU will lose weight get the pouch to get smaller and continue on your journey.

WE all drop off being strict on our diets, but just adjust when you discover what you are doing. Lapband doesn't change our old brains & memories of all the good but bad foods we ate in our past.

Best wishes and Keep the Faith.

You will not feel like you have a band for a while. Everything is going to be easy to go down until you start getting your fills. I could still eat the same foods I ate before the surgery until about my second fill. YOu just have to have willpower now to help you until you get your adjustment or as they hate for us to say feeling restriction

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
