martial arts

Recommended Posts

Has anyone post surgery taken martial arts classes? I am wondering if it'll be ok for me to resume going after surgery. The particular class I take is for stick and knife fighting but they incorporate empty hands techniques as well. I am still very much a beginner so I don't have to fight very hard, it's all technique and form for me now. And while the idea is to not get hit I imagine the occasional blow or poke to the stomach is not out of the question as I eventually become more advanced. Just wondering if anyone has any experience in the area.

I know someone who had a bypass and does them. She has not had a problem with weight but I think she also goes to support stuff too.

hi dude or dudette ;)

no martial arts here :(

but.................you should/need to check with your surgeon/doc before you start exercising

martial arts....sounds like "fun" ;)

but don't go there til you check with doc

you don't want to get "accidentally" punched into that new and improved smaller tummy!!!

good luck

kathy

I would be a dudette lol. I know I won't be able to do it for the first few weeks after but I don't want to not be able to do it again. It's one thing that gets me motivated to workout and I'd hate to lose it. I haven't seen my surgeon in a while. I've been going though the classes and other requirements.

I'm a deputy black belt and testing for my first dan at a three day martial arts camp in two weeks. I had to take about 8 weeks off from sparring after surgery and didn't take any falls for about ten weeks.

Do you wear gear when sparring? I would suggest a protective chest pad because it covers your tummy, too. The lower belts are actually more dangerous than higher ones as they lack the control.

Check with your doctor, be careful and go no contact until you feel great about it.

Fun fun fun!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
