Time to Stop Lurking

Recommended Posts

OK, so I've been lurking for a while and just wanted to jump in. I was just sleeved on Monday, June 16th--woot woot!! The first couple of days were a little rough--gas pains and drainage tube were the worse. Once the gas subsided and tube removed I felt 85% better! Four days out and I'm feeling pretty good. Having a hard time getting my Water down but I' m working on it. Incisions are healing pretty well. Haven't had much of an appetite but I I tried chicken broth today--we'll see how well that stays down/in. Had to go in for blood work on yesterday and all my labs came back perfect so I'm well on my way. Excited about the journey going forward. Just wanted to share!

Congrats...and welcome...

I found room temperature and/or hot beverages went down easier in the beginning...and I know this is the exact opposite, but I lot of people used sugar free popsicles to help with their fluids....

I have enjoyed the Popsicles, and the warm broth is a nice change too. Jello is good also. I was able to get my required 50oz of Water in so can add Liquid Protein to my diet. That should help with the hunger. Funny though, I had heard so much about our taste buds changing after surgery. That has not happened yet for me.

it's still early...and you are still on liquids... I can't drink Water like I used to...it NEEDS to be flavored! Which I found so strange...but it happens to some and not all...just like everything else...

Good luck to you

@Denise73 that was just a "me" thing with the Water...not everyone, of course...and my husband SELLS Water purification systems...so how sad it that! :( ... we have good, clean water...and I LOVED it, but since the surgery, I find I just can't get into drinking plain water anymore...

I thought it was weird as I have not heard anyone else that was drinking a lot of water before say they can't stand the "taste" of water now...just me! LOL

Thanks everyone! I am just the opposite with the Water..I can no longer drink Crystal Light. Tried it in the hospital and it was so sweet that I couldn't get it down. Maybe it was the flavoring. I'm on my way now to get SF Popsicles.. I did really well with the broth, by the way...staying down/in...but could only drink about three/four teaspoons...will try again later.

I also can not drink plain water anymore & have to add crystal light to it in order to get my fluids in for the day. Plain water for whatever reason seems to hit my stomach like a rock & makes me uncomfortable for a little while afterwards. If I add the crystal light it goes down so much easier & it don't cause an upset in my belly.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
