SusanSM 0 Posted June 20, 2014 Hello! I am trying to determine when to schedule surgery in light of a necessary travel obligation. LB was only a 1-2 day recovery and could've worked or traveled etc. How is the GS recovery? Could I fly a week after surgery? thanks
tonya66 13 Posted June 20, 2014 I personally took off 2 weeks, the first week was rough, very nauseas the first 3 or 4 days. I think I could have returned after a week but glad I took the 2nd week off. I personally would plan on 2 weeks to give your body time to heal. 2 steelemagnolia and barbb3 reacted to this
MaryE 27 Posted June 20, 2014 I understand that it is not recommended to fly for I believe three months to prevent blood clots. Speak with your surgeon.
marfar7 1,533 Posted June 21, 2014 Never heard of the 3 mth rule for flying. Personally, the band recovery was easy peasy compared with my revision. Everyday for 12 days I felt like I was hit by a truck. My liquid Vicodin was my best friend for 12 days. I had a rougher than average recovery tho. Ur might be much better. 1 week after, however, is being mighty optimistic. U could be great, climbing mountains. Or more like me, lying in agony. U never know. If it were me, Id give myself at least 2 weeks before I expected to travel. But again, that's just me...good luck
msfitn2014 248 Posted June 21, 2014 I was off for work work 2 weeks with the lapband but I could have went back after a week, I was off 3 weeks for band to sleeve and I could have went back after a week. I did not have any complications as far as recovery for both. I was tired with both but I was more tired with the sleeve or at least I slept more with the sleeve. In 3 days I was back to normal with the band and the sleeve....I see people travel all the time going from Mexico back to the states from surgery, I would ask my dr. I guess if you had to fly you may want to get up every 30 min and walk to the bathroom. My recovery was smooth with both operations and I was banded in 2005 and revision in 2014. Good luck
