Hi there! I am new to this and I'm a little nervous about having the surgery. I am scheduled for gastric bypass July 22 and I'm excited and nervous! I have to do the liver shrinking diet 2 weeks prior. Any suggestions for what to do or not to do during those 2 weeks? I'm so glad I found this app and have been really impressed reading everyone's stories!!

Hi AmynNC,

I am scheduled for surgery July 21st! I also have to start the 2 week pre-op diet. I am excited and ready to get this moving.

I have already tried several different Protein shakes (to see which ones I like the best). I have researched ... researched ... researched everything I can regarding the surgery pre and post op. Knowing what to expect is probably the best tool we have. (Read all of the posts - good and bad).

Best of luck to you!

Hi,

I had gastric bypass on July 2, 2012….it changed my life! I weighed 283 at my heaviest and now I weigh 123. I am a size 2 (previously 20). For my pre surgery diet, I did liquids….protein shakes, low sodium Soups without solids (ones like tomato) and lots of water!. I won't lie….it was difficult BUT it is soooooooooo worth it! You are going to be amazed at how your life will change!

good luck!

Thank you! I'm really excited for this change! I know the 2 weeks will fly by! I'm a little worried about getting clothes that fit as I lose my weight! Thank you for the support! One more month!! ????

I have surgery July 11, start the liquid phase June 26. I'm having more anxiety about the pre-op diet than the surgery itself. I have done research, research and more research. I'm collecting samples of a variety of Proteins as I'm told my taste will change. I've also stocked up on multi-vitamins, B12 and calcium citrate. As this is my last week before liquids I am trying to eat one meal a day and supplement with liquids so next week won't seem so drastic, but my "head"is already sending the negative messages about failure.

Any advice or experiences much appreciated!

The pre-op diet makes me nervous too! I'm more worried about that than the surgery! It's just getting in that mind set and knowing how much better your life will be! I only have to do it for 2 weeks and I'm sure they'll fly by. The weekends will be the hardest for me. Good luck to all of you and I know we can do this!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
