Pre- Op diet withdrawal!

Recommended Posts

My surgery is Tuesday. I feel so guilty right now because I just slipped up on my pre-op diet and ate half a bag of cherries. I went to the kitchen to make myself a Protein supplement drink and ended up in the fridge. This surgery is such a huge, life changing thing to do. I'm worried that I'm not taking it as seriously as I should if I just allowed myself to cheat on the pre-op diet! I worry that I'm not going to be successful at what I feel like is my very last chance to lose weight. Has anyone else out there slipped during pre-op but done well after the surgery?

After sleeving you will be able to eat the cherries and most anything else when you are about 6 months out. Willpower and keeping the bad stuff out of your house will make a difference. I make sure I shop after I have eaten so I am not hungry when I go shopping. That way I do not being things home. My husband and I were both sleeved so it is easier not to have bread, Pasta and sweets in the house. I know it would be harder if I had other family members or children in the house. Good luck!

Don't be hard on yourself - cherries aren't a crazy "bad" choice. Today is a new day and forgive yourself and get on with getting on track. After your sleeve you will feel so much "Free er" because you just won't be craving or desiring much food. Enjoy the process - this won't be your last slip up! And come and join us on the losers bench

I agree...don't beat yourself up. I am NOT recommending it or endorsing it, but to answer your question, YES! I definitely slipped up on my pre-op diet. And way worse than cherries. I am doing awesome and at 9 months post op have lost 125 pounds and am within 7 pounds of goal. I'm not saying it will work like that for everyone, but the surgery WILL work. The extent to which it works and the long-term effectiveness is up to you. If you worry I think to some extent it shows that it matters to you and you care. Today is a new day. Refocus and go for it!!!

Forgive yourself and move forward. We didn't get to this weight by following a perfect eating plan. You didn't eat a pint of Ben and Jerry's. =) Just try your best to stick with it. Tuesday is right around the corner. You can do it!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
