hey all, im 5 weeks out as of today, i am down 24 pounds down since surgery and was cleared for exercise last week, since day 5 ive been walking walking and walking even more doing up to 7 -8 miles a day and now ive added i the gym , kickboxing etc. and this past week my weight loss has stalled, i feel like i eat as much as i can, although i dont always know if its enough,or even too much....i have a hard time counting Proteins etc, i drink alot but dont urinate alot at all. i have a fitbit so i try to estimate my cals through it. im just a little lost and confused. i know 24 pounds is a lot dont get me wrong but i have days where could not eat all day and other where i find myself wanting more and at 5 weeks out that worries me.

You're doing a lot of exercise for so early out! Because your calories must still be very low, you are not taking in enough calories for the amount of exercise you are doing. Although it may seem counterproductive, I would recommend slowing down the exercise regimen until you can take in enough fuel for your body. You are in starvation mode right now and your body is fighting you to hold on to everything it can. I would recommend using My Fitness Pal to keep track of calories and Protein, It helps a lot.

Take it slow, get in your Protein and Water, and you'll see the pounds come off.

i really dont feel like im not eating enough, i had a light coleslaw about a cup, fresh salmon for lunch and a slice of pizza for dinner (that was a splurge just really craved it) so i feel like im eating a normal amount someone on a diet would eat and more than a sleeve pt should be eating! although i feel full easy...i dunno im so confused as to whats normal and as far as the exercise it pushes me to do good and i enjoy it....i have an all or nothing personality which might be my downfall now

It's possible that you are gaining muscle mass which weights more than fat so you might not see as much of a change on the scales right now. I would pay more attention to inches or how my clothes feel vs the lbs at this point. Keep up the good work and hang in there.

I'm 4 months pre-suregery so I can't offer advice on your situation but I can vouch for myfitnesspal. It will sync with your fitbit as well so you can import and keep track of your workouts with your calorie intake. You have to manually adjust the settings to the amount of calories you want to take in everyday or it will aim too high.

I track everything via MFP. Exercise, food intake, etc. It really helps a lot. It will also track your measurements...I tend to do a weigh-in and measurements every Friday (keeping with the Fourth of July challenge)...otherwise I get scale obsessed.

Make sure you're eating the right foods as well. You mention eating a cup of coleslaw? There's little to no Protein there. You want to get your Protein in first. Fresh salmon is good, pizza is not. Definitely not at the early stage you're at: too many carbs and not nearly enough protein.

I would really suggest MFP and tracking your protein intake (it does most of the work for you...you just have to plug in the foods and it does the rest)

Just sign up :) There are several threads on here of people who use it if you want friends on there as well. It's really great for tracking intake and output, plus there's a mobile app so you can track things on-the-go.

Information is power . . . it's hard for you to know how you are doing with intake if you aren't weighing or measuring your food and logging it on myfitnesspal or a similar app or site. On the other hand, do not trust their estimated calorie burns for exercise, they tend to way over IMO. Also, they try to force you into using their "guidelines" for how much Protein etc. you should be taking in. Don't use their guidelines -- customize to fit the guidelines given to you by your surgeon or dietician. If I didn't customize, MFP would be telling me to eat hundreds of carbs per day, and that is not going to happen! You can also customize which nutrient macros you track, how you name your meals, etc. I track calories, carbs, fat, protein, Calcium, and Fiber, and the "meals" I use each day are Breakfast, lunch, dinner, Snacks, and Vitamins & supplements.< /p>

@Bufflehead I have FINALLY started using My Fitness Pal on my phone, since I always have it with me, easier that trying to write it down...I was not diligent...I admit it :( A friend just gave me a fitbit, so I will be doing the sync up thing shortly...but I didn't know that I could customize MFP!!! :o So this weekend, after my pool workout, I will play with that some more while I'm drying off in the sun  (yes, I bought a bathing suit!! YIKES  )

I love the info I collect from everyone here!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
