I want to see what someone might have to say about my issue. I don’t want to have unnecessary worry, bother by surgery team, or pay money for an MD if this is a common occurrence.

I know that with extreme weight loss there are changes to your body and a woman’s cycle can be one of those changes. For a little background, I had surgery at the end of January and have lost 77 lbs. so far; my period has always been very regular. There have been small things since surgery, a day or two late, early, or shorter. I was roughly 3 weeks late last month (started on 6/6) and it was lite (many pregnancy test were negative) and it was light. I have been a little spotty since then (when I wipe). Now I have started again.

Is this type of things pretty common? I will mention this to my MD when I see him, but not sure if that needs to be sooner rather than later. Thoughts?

It's funny that you say that. I didn't have my P since February 15 and then suddenly on Saturday I started spotting. Since then I have continued to spot. I've only lost 17 lbs so far. I'm 50 so I thought maybe it was menopause, could still be.

Weight gain/loss does affect hormones.

I def think this surgery makes a change to our hormones. I have not had a period in 2 years (because of an iud). Then the day I came home from my surgery I started it and bled for over 2 weeks straight. I am guessing this is probably related to the surgery. Best of luck!

I had sleeve done on 9/27/13 and also had this problem. I was told by my doctors that when you lose weight, there is an increase in estrogen that your body produces and that is what causes the spotting. I went to my gynecologist and was put on a new birth control pill (also because my surgeon doesn't advise getting pregnant until 1 year PO). The new BC pill helped with my cycles. Good luck!

Hi girls, I was starting to worry. I know im not pregnant. But I had my period prior to pre op drinks. I had surgery 3 weeks ago. So I haven't had it for over 5 weeks. I did have slight spotting in hospital and now nothing. I shouldn't be complaining its nice not having pain. I have polycystic ovaries. Wasn't sure if this was normal.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
