Gastritis and H pylori

Recommended Posts

My pathology results just came back from my EGD biopsies. First I found out that I have a small sliding hiatus hernia, now these results say that I have chronic active gastritis and am H.pylori positive. All of this has been a surprise because I have no symptoms. It was just supposed to be a routine EGD for pre-op. Has anyone else had this happen? Do you know if the gastritis will interfere with getting the sleeve done?

Well, I do know they will repair the hernia during the surgery itself, they did for me. The gastric sleeve does increase odds of gastric reflux, indigestion and other digestive/gastric issues. You will need to speak with your surgeon regarding all of this for sure! Good luck to you!!!

The H.pylori is treatable with antibiotics. Didn't he write u a script for it? Google it and u can read about it. There is even a place somewhere on this site that tells about it.

Good luck

I see him next Friday. I just think it's weird that I don't have any symptoms. I'm so afraid that he'll tell me I'm not a good candidate for the sleeve because of it.

There are people who have no symptoms so I'm hoping it won't be a problem since I have none, and that the sleeve won't create symptoms.

I had the bacteria as well. I took antibiotics for 10 days and went back and had to do a breathing test. No big deal at all. The dr told me that almost 80% of the population has it and the don't even know.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
