my2bys9799 26 Posted June 19, 2014 I had my band to sleeve revision surgery on 5/23. I am doing well; healing, gaining some energy and progressing well with solid foods, but my weight loss seems extrememly slow, compared to others. I know "compared to others" is the problem and that we are all different and not supposed to compare, but you can't help but notice that some people seem to drop 50-60 pounds in the first few weeks. My SW was 225 and I lost 8 pounds on my two-week pre-op diet.and another 15 since my surgery date. I'm only down a total of 23 pounds. What am I doing wrong?????? KayleeC14 159 Posted June 19, 2014 I don't think your doing anything wrong. Some people just loose slower than others, and its hard to stop comparing yourself to others. I do it all the time on this site. When I was revised I first started to loose weight slow then it sped up like at rapid rate and slowed right back down. This cycle continues for me, but everybody's story is different. That's awesome you are down 23 pounds! Rock on, you got this. KayleeC14 159 Posted June 19, 2014 The one thing to my success is that I am truthful with myself and super strict as well. I eat my portions that are recommended for the surgery. One thing with food wise I have cut out bread, rice, most salt, and going out to eat. I would love to say I cut out sweets but I would be lying, I am a food addict. I have worked so much to get rid of the sweets but from trial and error if I cut out sweets all together I just binge on them like its the last thing in the world. So, with that said I eat them in very strict moderation. I am also a yo yo exerciser, I can go a full week with walking and exercising then go three weeks without it. That's something to work on. There's real no super duper key to be successful (that's what I think) its how you classify what is successful in your book. Fluffnomore 1,235 Posted June 19, 2014 I think your starting weight was too low to drop 50-60 pounds. You are right on track. 23 pounds in less than a month. Think about that. I know my starting weight wasn't as high as some, but it was big enough for me. Just don't want to feel discouraged, and as we already know - since the lap band failed, that is one of my biggest concerns. I just don't think I can mentally taken another failure, but I don't see this as failing. Fluffnomore 1,235 Posted June 19, 2014 That's just the thing, it's not slow at all. :-) We just THINK it is. I have no idea if our stats are similar, but at about a month I was somewhere right around where you are. The weight loss has slowed down now, at 8 months, to a trickle, but it is still going down. At 177 I wear about a 12 and look and feel 100% better. My goal weight is basically a moving target at this point (it is arbitrarily set at just below a 25 BMI) but my surgeon tells me that I can consider myself a success NOW. I was a slow looser and now my weight loss has stopped instead I have put on..maybe its the gout....it says gout gives sudden weight gain... I am too low...I was always afraid this wouldnt work for me...I have arthritis ..cant walk much...metabolism is very slow... Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
tonya66 13 Posted June 19, 2014 I have learned your body is going to do what it's going to do. I'm 7 months out and am down 45 lbs when a lot of people have already reach goal. I'm also a revision patient, had the band in 2007 and converted to sleeve November 20, 2013. Just stick to the rules and you will lose, slow sometime and sometimes fast. I will give you an example, for the past 3 months I have not done anything as far as weight loss goes, I've bounces around with the same 5 pounds for months. Everyone says after month 6 it slows down and I was really worried because it was already slow but suddenly from month 6 to 7 my weightloss has done the opposite and I'm almost down 10 lbs this month, so everyone is different. Focus on you and your journey, that's what I have to keep telling myself as well because it's easy to compare yourself to others. bnriley 3 Posted June 21, 2014 I'm right there with ya. I was sleeved on may 23 after my lap band was taken out. Starting weight was 211 and I'm down to 189. It seems like it's going so slow! Been stuck at the same weight for 4 days now. I know how you feel when you get discouraged comparing yourself to others. msfitn2014 248 Posted June 21, 2014 I think you are doing awesome, I was told that MOST band to sleeve patients are slower than virgin sleevers. I have lost 30 pounds since April 9th, and I go for my 3mo check up on July 9th and I am praying I am healthier because I am happier. I could not have lost it w/o my sleeve. Most importantly I didn't gain 30 pounds. I am just going to continue to eat small portions, watch my carbs, exercise and get my Protein in...I know I will meet my goal soon and my dr said he knows if I stay focused and follow the rules that I should meet my goal in 6 months and If I don't I will just keep going till I do....Good luck, I got 43 to go for my own goal and 53 pounds to go for my dr goal All I know is Change is Coming!! happy to be a bandtosleeve 1 tiffnichole76 reacted to this Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
trish151 33 Posted July 4, 2014 I was a slow loser and I was frustrated at the time. 2 years post-op. I am thankful. I've lost 118lbs, wear a size 6, and I have minimal sagging skin. It's a blessing to be slow sometimes. I've had friends who've dropped it fast but they have so much sagging skin they aren't happy with the weight loss results. I've been slow and steady. I'm still losing and I'm feeling much better now that I threw out my scale. It depressed me and kept me mentally bound up. I focused too much on the scale going down instead of my clothes. Now I don't look. I get up and do all I can and then I push it some more. I feel around on my body and notice lumps are gone, belly almost completely flat and thighs are almost dissolved. Woo Hoo. Plus, like I said, I have a slight amount of sagging skin on my inner thighs that is noticeable to me only when I am naked but it seems to be getting better the more I lose. Throw out your scale and just keep going and going and going some more. Be as active as you can and look for the results in your clothes and how you feel. BLAKQUEEN 33 Posted July 4, 2014 Hi I too am feeling like I am losing slowly. My mom keeps asking me why I am not losing weight, but I have lost. I was 239 before pre-op diet, then I was 126 pre-op and now I am 212. My surgery was on June 2, 2014. When I was banded I started at 280 that was in 2009. I weighed my lowest two years ago after my knee surgery which was 185, I had problems with my band and as you see I was back up to 239 at the time of my decision for the revision. I think as previous band patients we lose bulk of our weight then so when we have a revision it seems to move a lot slower. I feel somewhat discourage but I know what I have to do to make this tool work for me. Walking daily and ready to do everything the doctor said.......well its tough when the pounds come off slowly or stall.....I've been sitting at the same weight for two weeks. No failure ,you are doing fine im 4 mths out and at -52 lbs sw270 ..i exercise 5-4 days and stay in ketosis daily so im doing the best I can. You are closer to goal than others so you will naturally lose slower than a 500lb person. Everyone is different but you will reach goal.
