I originally went with the band in August of 2008. I picked the band as I didn't want something permanent. Lost 121 lbs then in 2010 got pregnant. After my sin was born in 2011 I took a year off the. Went back for adjustments. Man if my dr filled my band past 1cc I could not eat, drink and had acid reflux all the time. Did many upper GI test, blood work to look for infections etc. my October of last year we emptied my band and started talking about revision to sleeve. I thought long and hard and after a partial tear if my MCL that is still slowly healing, I said its time. I have put back on 100lbs since getting pregnant etc. finally in May said ok and had my revision surgery to sleeve done 6/18. Boy even though I'm on liquids, soft foods it is so nice to be able to keep food down. I knew I had to make the change as I had to get the weight off as my knees can't carry the extra do to arthritis and they are pretty much bone in bone for the wear and tear to the. Now I'm sharing my story just so you know there can be issues. Some people have no issues with the band and do awesome, then you have the ones like me. Do all the research you can, talk to your dr about the differences to help you decided what is best for you.

I am also going for the sleeve, (previously it was lapband) the more I researched it the more I pulled to the sleeve and my insurance covers both and the band fills so that has nothing to do with my choice. I have 3 friends who have had the band in the last 3 years 1 lost over 100 lbs. with wait gain back(not all) but some and the other 2 are so disappointed for their lack of weight loss, one Dr. said you won't always see the scale move but that's okay, so with me seeing all of this I just feel like my choice is the sleeve if I am going to do anything and my surgeon has just about quit doing the lapband because of lack of success for the patients. It is everybody's choice and I hope all do well.

I'm getting sleeved in August. I asked my doctor about the lap band. He said while people can lose a large amount of weight, most drs are dropping it because there are more and more reports of complications. And while complications are growing, people are also in the long run eventually gaining the weight back plus some. I had a friend have it and she gained all her weight back. The sleeve is growing in popularity and has excellent success and statistically most keep off the weight for at least 10 years. I'm not trying to bash anyones decision but just sharing what I've read and heard.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
