In one week I will be off diet restrictions

Recommended Posts

Except for steak and pork chops I'll be able to eat anything I want. I'm a little but worried about it. I don't want to screw this up. How did you vets do with that once you were off restrictions?

What's your average calorie intake?

I just had my 8 week doctors appointment (surgery 4/21)

My doctor told me I can eat just about anything but take it slowly, small bites, and chew well.

He also told me I should be eating about 600 calories daily

Nutritionalist told me 600-800. OY thats not very much.

Keep it simple. Boiled egg, tuna fish salad, chicken salad, yogurt, refried Beans, crockpot slow cooked chicken, sauteed or broiled fish, smoked salmon, FF Soups, soft steamed vegetables, cottage cheese with SF Polaner jam, the possibilities are endless. You can add Protein Powder to some of these dishes. I never cook anymore, I just keep the fridge stocked with certain things. Loving that it is summertime. I remember my first favorite food after surgery was homemade turkey chili for Christmas lol! We never counted calories. My husband has lost 90 lbs since sleeving 12/2. At 7 months post sleeve we still share a filet mignon and small salad, or share one lowfat hamburger patty, no bread whatsoever. Best of luck!

Thank you! I'm going to have to stay away from bread and potatoes. It has to be in the house because I have a husband, 16 year old boy, and 4 toddlers. :/ So, I just have to be strong. Thanks so much for the suggestions!

Wow Tonya that will be tough. But maybe you can keep bread in the freezer and microwave it for them so it won't be at arm's reach. Little things help. Buy sweet potatoes not white. You won't be able to eat a lot at first. Get them eating healthier too. Puree veggies into your foods for them. Always eat something before you go grocery shopping. My number one rule!

Thankfully my toddlers eat very healthy. They were offered donut holes and turned them down in favor of cherry tomatoes. They will eat salads over French fries. I've never kept sweets in the house and so they eat a lot of fresh fruit.

I didn't want them to turn out like me so I never gave them chips or candy bars earlier in their lives. They are 4,4,3, and almost 2.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
