Stall @ week 3? Seems to soon for that?

Recommended Posts

Help y'all, I'm stuck at the same weight for about a week now, which seems really weird, and discouraging!

Any suggestions?

Anyone experience this?

Extremely normal. Most stall at 3 weeks.

a week really isn't a stall...2-3 weeks is! TRUST ME, I KNOW :(

But just stay on track and it will move...this is the time to explore your NSVs!

Welcome to the club on this one! When you're stalling at this point it IS frustrating, yes. Take your measurements right now though, and set up a calendar reminder to do them every month and you'll see a difference there even if not on the scale. That sounds so 'pat' but it honestly helped keep me from getting too depressed about slow loss and stalls during those first weeks. Hang in there - this DOES work. I'm on my second stall and coming out of it now I think, and it's only been 7 weeks since my surgery.

When you're frustrated and worried, it also helps a lot to read this site and cruise specific support groups for amount to lose, age, etc. because you'll read about people who either toughed it out, made bad eating choices, or other coping techniques, and it'll help you choose good ones. You will lose the weight, just not quite how you thought I'm learning!

I just pushed past the dread "three week stall" (which actually hit around 2 weeks out for me, and lasted maybe 10 days?) I knew it was coming (having seen so many posting about it on here), but it's still frustrating to experience, especially when you're doing everything right.

My stall broke when I managed to boost my calories slightly for the day. I went from around 400 to 550-600, and that seemed to kick my losing back into gear.

Thank you guys so much. Glad to know it;s normal and I'm not the only one experiencing this. I have been trying really hard to up my calories with healthy choices. (had only been getting 300-400 a day, now trying for 600-700)

What kind of exercise are y'all getting in? Your input is SO helpful

I do 20-30 minutes of yoga every morning (low impact). Other than that, walking or cycling. I'm aiming for 6k steps daily currently. I was trying for 10K, and hit it for about a week post-surgery, but it really drained me so the doctor actually suggested cutting back just slightly until my body can tolerate more exercise (my hips are really off too since I've started losing, since my balance isn't quite up to par.)

I also do light weights MWF (3 sets, 12 reps dumbbell curls and presses for now. More to be added)

YUP completely normal, I was the same. At 3 weeks that dam scale would NOT move, however, after the 4th week -- watch out. 3 to 5 lbs the 2 weeks after that and now 1 to 2 lbs per week. Keep up the good work, don't get discouredged and just wait -- in now time, the pounds will continue to fall off and the sizes come down! :)

I have seen lots of people experiencing the same thing. I am beginning to hit it as well I believe.

Common advice includes upping your calories. My food of choice to do the trick is hummus, Peanut Butter, and blended chili, lots of Protein and higher calories. Good luck to you!

Wow I too have hit a wall, I am 16 days post op and I haven't lost weight in about a week. My mother is concerned she thinks I lost more when I was first banded and now that I am sleeved she is looking for the same results. I know I am not getting enough calories. I only can get about 16 oz of Protein shakes a day and I now know I can not tolerate the cookie n cream GNC Protein powder, first thinking it was the way I prepared it, then I make a different shake and still it make me nauseous. So the vanilla powder recipes it is for now.

I had a lot of trouble with Protein Shakes. Everything tasted too sweet. Chike was the only one I was able to drink for quite a while, because I couldn't manage more than a sip or two of anything else. (and now I'm having the same reaction to Chike). Thankfully, I can have soft foods now so it's not as important, but it's so much easier to hit Protein goals when I was able to drink a shake a day for one of my meals.

I was told that a 3 week stall is quite common because they body is adjusting to the surgery. It happened to me and then I lost 4 lbs. this fourth week.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
