Help! I have a swollen mouth!

Recommended Posts

Any docs or nurses out there? I had a fill last week in Mexico with fluoroscope. I got home and realized I was too full. I tried all week to make it work hoping it would loosen up but was difficult event ot drink Water. I drank hot water only for 7days. I was able to get some Soup down. I went back to mexico for a un fill yesterday. Before I went I noticed the roof of my mouth was swollen. I did spit up a million times while I was stuck during the week and sipped hot water through a straw so I figured I was sore from all of that and slight dehydration. after my fill yesterday, the roof of my mouth which was still swollen, became numb. Also my jaw hurts around my gum line. Mostly the left side of my mouth is painfull and swollen. Could I be having an allergic reaction to the Barium and if so, what is the treatment. I saw online that allergies to Barium are accumulative. I drank it three times last week and twice yesterday. Also I have a slight fever. Thanks to anyone that can help or anyone with stories about their mouth getting painfull after spitting up too much.

I have a message into him, he is in surgery today.....I hope he calls me back. I took some Benadryl and a anti inflamatory(liquid of course)and feel a little better........I did see on the web that a reaction to Barium can include numbness to face or mouth and a hot face. I have both. Has anyone on here had a a sore mouth after being too full too long and spitting so much?

I have been doing extensive searching on the internet, and I think I may have a Parotid infection which is the main salivary gland located betweent he ear and jaw. It releases saliva by the upper molars. Also, there are minor ducts on roof of mouth. I am going to go see my dentist on monday. I am so wary of docs these days, I feel like they never listen to the details that may be important. It is hard to assume that they will understand how much spit I made due to the band being so tight. Most docs dont even understand what the lapband is............I really like my dentist, I am going to beg them to let him see me tomorrow. My jaw is in terrible pain, the roof of my mouth is not as swollen or numb any more but still hurts. All the pain is on the left side. Nothing seems to help much.........I saw on one site that benadryl can cause dry mouth, so I stopped taking it. The only thing that has helped was liquid ibuprofen (childrens), but I try not to take it because it can irritate the stomach.

I had very similar symptoms, and it turned out to be a severe sinus infection, of all things!! I thought I would die from the jaw pain!!! Hope you get it resolved!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
