I'm on my high Protein diet I'm having RNY on June 23rd and I just thought of what I would miss after surgery and that thing is PIZZA!

So what is the one food you would miss?

It's funny, but I thought I would miss so much more than I actually do. I don't really miss sweets at all. I kind of miss salty, greasy tortilla chips, though. I love Mexican food, but at least I can make healthy versions of most of my favorite Mexican dishes. I really miss coffee and wine. I have a big wine refrigerator full of good wine. Heaven knows if I'll ever be able to drink it. I'm only 3 months out, so I don't plan to even attempt alcohol for several more months! :)

I have a horrible addiction to sweets like ice cream and cake. I think that's what I will miss. Might one day be able to have sugar free version but after surgery I dont want to do that stuff because it will just bring to many calories and temptation to return to my old ways.

I already had my surgery and I can tell you that I do not miss a thing, because I can eat anything I want. I tolerate every food, so if I want pizza then I will have pizza - about 3 bites of it. That's all I can have. Eating is not much fun anymore. I do not like sweets any longer and I used to be addicted to sugar. I could not live without fruits, but even before surgery I used to eat lots of fruits.

I tell myself every day that I don't miss anything. There are lots of things from the old days that I crave and know I'd love to eat them (at least for a few minutes). But seeing the progress on the scale and watching the clothes sizes drop gives me the strength I need to know that I'm much happier without those things that aren't part of my plan.

I thought I would miss a bunch of different things but I enjoy the numbers on the scale going down.

I had surgery on Monday. They took blood, and my blood pressure. That was it. They tested my blood again before they released me to make sure everything was good. They did want me to go pee before i left, but they didn't take a sample, just to know how much to make sure my system was working.

I just had my surgery Thursday. That morning before surgery they checked my temperature, blood pressure, and had me take a pregnancy test. That was it. I signed my papers and they gave me some meds to relax rolled me back to or told me I was going under then I woke up when someone called my name. Now they still are watching my blood pressure temperature and blood oxygen levels every fee hours and while on iv fluids they measured how much a peed butt that's it. My husband had surgery and her is diabetic shi he also had his blood sugar levels taken every fee hours. Rally it's not bad and right now I don't miss any food!

So what is the one food you would miss?

I had RNY in April 2013 so im a little over a year out. pizza is my number one, all time favorite food! Everyones perception of rny is that you will never be able to eat certain foods again. That is not true! I was worried about never having pizza again too. I eat pizza now but differently than before. I have ultra thin crust vs thick. And 1 slice vs 6! LOL

Some people avoid crust altogether, but I feel that we eat such a little amount, might as well enjoy it. Some things I refuse to give up! I've lost around 150lbs so I must be doing something right!

First, congrats on the 150lb loss.

Second, I was so afraid my nut was going to refuse to write the recommendation letter because I said I want to still eat pizza, just less. She was adamant that I wouldn't be able to eat pizza (or any other high calorie/high fat/high sugar foods) if I wanted this to work.

I don't exactly believe her, and your story lets me know I am right not to do so. I do believe she had my number though... I do better with absolutes. I quit smoking, difficult, but I did it. Now, i wont even allow my self one puff, not one drag. I know it wouldn't stop with one. I am looking forward to eating pizza again... but I am not even willing to try until after my stomach has healed. I know myself too.

Jennifer

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
