Byetta anyone...

Recommended Posts

Just went to my PCP yesterday. He wants me to go on this new medicine. Said everyone they have put it on has lost weight. I am type 2 diabetic and my numbers are controlled and good. Anyone here on this?

My mom went on it a few days ago and told me about it because she thought it might be something that I'd want to try. I haven't talked to my doctor yet, but I'd like to see about getting put on it. I don't know if they would, though, because I am only insulin resistant, not diabetic.

I had never heard of it. I did use it today 1 time. Did make me nauseous, dizzy and extremely lethargic. Toward the evening I was feeling better. We went out to eat unexpectedly for dinner and I didnt get in the before dinner dose. I was noticeably less hungry. Probably because I was nauseous most of the day. But they say that goes away. Would you check with your Mom and see if she had any problems? Thanks for responding

I've been on it for awhile now. Although, I've stopped taking it since I have been losing weight.

It did take my appetite away pretty well. However, in the mornings I usually felt nausous. I also hated that every time I injected myself I'd end up with a bruise in the area. That could have been me doing it wrong, though.

I know a few people on it, and the weight loss has really been great for them. The thing they told me is that you only eat small amounts of food with it, otherwise you get very nauseated. The trick is small small portions. Sounds perfect for bandsters! Jill

my mom takes byetta, she has lost 30lbs on it. In fact, when I told her I was getting the band she wanted me to try taking the byetta instead, But, I am not diabetic, and I don't do well with needles (you can imagine how much I dread going for a fill).

Anyway, she says it makes her nauseous, but she is willing to deal with that for the weight loss. She eats much smaller portions, and can't hardly stand chocolate any more.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Thanks for all the responses. I have been taking the Byetta 6 days now. The first day when I injected it, I felt like I was having an out of body experience. Felt REALLY whacked out and VERY nauseous. Each day it has gotten a little better. I am only taking it in the am before Breakfast because we get up so late. I know I should start taking it before dinner also, but that hast worked out. You cant take it less than 6 hr apart. And anyway I dreaded that feeling I got, but that has almost went away. It does make me very lethargic. I go back to the Dr tomorrow I will see if I have lost any weight. Thanks again everyone.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
