Lap-band surgery on 06/19, lost 18 pounds so far during pre-op

Recommended Posts

Nolan's Nana, that's A very huge accomplishment! Towards the last week of my "pre-op diet", I just kept telling myself that I was competing against myself. So I forced the shakes down even if I didn't like it; just to prove to myself that I could. The first week was definitely the hardest. I work for a group of Vascular surgeons doing the ultrasounds. And I promise, you are

Doing the right thing!! You don't want to me in my office with Health related problems due to smoking. It's not worth it seriously! So congratulations and good luck!!

@@apespayne It is doable so don't stress over it. I was a volume eater my whole life.

It is an adjustment but sometimes your tastes and appetite change so much after banding…you will have to wait and see since there are such different results for everyone.

I was banded on 9/19/13 and after the 2 week all liquid pre op and the 2 week all liquid post op and the 2 weeks of mushies….it was awesome to eat solid food again…and I thought all hell would break lose when I really ate again and it did not.

@@Colleen C And 8 weeks after surgery I not only enjoyed all of my favorites at Thanksgiving (turkey, homemade gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing, corn, and even a bite of cornbread)…oh and some dessert too. It was heavenly and delicious and just like it is every other year….EXCEPT….i didn't have to be rolled away from the table…I wasn't so stuffed I thought I would explode. It was a totally different and amazing feeling and accomplishment. And on top of all of that I was the one who cooked the darn meal…lol.

So it is all doable. I eat out more now than before banding (and that still isn't a lot) but i eat what i want and just bring home the extras. It is quite a freeing experience.

And 9 months later I now eat to live I don't live to eat. Do I have weak moments…yup….do i always make awesome food choices…nope….do I still eat too fast and too much(on occasion)…yup…am I still learning….yup….

but most of all I am 93 pounds down and living my life in a way that I haven't for about 2 1/2 decades (and Im only 44).

Greatest decision ever…hope yours will be too.

***And if you think talking to someone will help you get to the root of your eating habits--kudos to you and go for it…it can only make you more successful***

Wishing you ALL the best!

Thanks guys for all your "pre-op" support! I had my surgery Thursday the 19th and I have to admit I'm having a pretty hard time. Days 1 and 2 were the worst with the nausea, pain and hunger! Today is day 3, and most of the pain is gone from the incisions, however I keep having the worst pain in my upper middle abdomen, which comes and goes. It feels almost like acid reflux with the burping immediately after the pain, but it's different. It's much more painful. I'm thinking it's because I had a hernia repair and maybe it's just really sore?? I just can not wait until this particular pain is gone and I can eat again. I'm so grumpy!!

Wow, you are on all liquids? I thought I had it bad. I am on 2 shakes daily and one healthy meal that consist of 6-8 oz of lean meat, 1 cup veggies, and 1 cup of fruit (no bananas). and I am still hungry... Hats off to you!! you are doing great! I look forward to following you. take care.

So I've pretty much followed the pre-op diet, with the exception of a "taste" here and there of certain things. I had a pickle on day 2; I couldn't take it any more. I ate a small piece of plain chicken daily several of the days; other than that I have been following the plan. 18 pounds down so far and the surgery is on Thursday 06/19. I'm just a little worried about not being able to eat large meals any longer. I've always eaten for comfort, so now I have to teach myself to eat to live. I'm seriously considering getting therapy to get to the root of why food has such a hold on me. Anyone else relate??

I can totally relate! My surgery was 6/16 this post op gas pain is bout to kill me. Plus thinking of what to do instead of eat. I never realized i was addicted to food til preoperative prep. I've got to stay strong though. We can do it!! :)

I second what Bandista said. My experience so far has been so much better than I expected. My pre-grieving the loss of volume eating, future Thanksgiving binges and crispy turkey skin were all wasted energy.

I'm three months post op and 69 pounds down and I have my life back.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
