Hate to brag, but I'm so advanced ;)

Most people begin to lose hair at, or around, 3 months post op....I'm a few days shy of 2 months & am a hair shedding machine....seriously, if I were to shake my head near my 3 year old I'm afraid I'd bury her in a sea of (my former) golden locks....of all the things to be "advanced" in...

I've mentioned on another forum Biotin, you can buy at Walmart. Suppose to be good for hair, nails and skin. I get sleeved in Sept so started it now to see if it will help.

Hahahah that sucks to be advanced in that. I'm 11 weeks and still holding.

Thanks for the advice...unfortunately Biotin is doing nothing for me...of course it might be doing a little something, I could be completely bald without it, who knows?

And, yes, it does suck as I have a sneaking suspicion that I will not be able to pull off the bald look...I'm pretty sure my scalp is nothing but lumps...gah!

Try a high dosage of Biotin and take a msm pill which is also used for hair thinning, msm pills can be purchased online, cvs and walgreen...you can google all the good things msm pills are good for

Make sure you are getting all of your Protein in that is the major key to the hair loss. I also started using Revita about 3 months post op. It doesn't stop Hair loss but it causes your hair follicles to grow hair quicker and begin growth in places that no longer would grow back. I figured if I was going to lose hair I might as well get it started growing back quicker. It worked great for me! You can order it on Amazon with the conditioner for about 35.00. Best of luck to you! :)

I'm advanced too. Started noticing Hair loss at 6 weeks. I have consistently consumed between 60-90 grams of Protein every day since the day after surgery and take all of my Vitamins. It has more to do with restricting calories. Your body thinks its starving and stops all activity it deems not necessary for survival. Biotin doesn't stop the hair loss, but it does help with regrowth. My nails are growing longer/thicker than ever and I have a bunch of new Hair growth in my head popping out.

You "A" type personalities are so competitive at everything! You just have to ruin the curve for the rest of us.

P.S. As a penalty, you don't get to count the weight of that lost hair as part of your official weight loss!

I am 9 weeks post op. I do not take Biotin because there is always a chance of growing hair where u dont want it. But b4 surgery I used to get out of the shower with a large clump of hair to throw in the trash. After surgery the shedding minimized a lot. Just recently the shedding has started to increase again. But I figure if I didn't go bald b4, I will b fine during these next few months. Not to mention that I have so much hair I only wash every 3rd day to save on Shampoo and conditioner.

Thank you for the msm & revita suggestions...at the rate I'm going I can envision myself as a Sasquatch with a bald head...hopefully I'll at least be a slender Sasquatch ;)

And yes, I'm totally counting Hair loss as weight loss ;)

Thanks to you all!

Hey there. I just posted a new thread about hair loss which I will copy and past below. Have you heard this before? If its true, being advanced may be a good thing!

I recently heard that the timing of Hair loss post surgery was relevant. The sooner you started losing, the sooner it would end. For example, if your hair started falling out at month 3, the hair loss would only last 3 months. If hair loss started at month 8, the loss/regrowth process would last 8 months, etc. Has anyone heard this before? The information was reported from a fellow BP friend after attending the 3 month follow up class offered at the hospital where we had our surgeries. I'm attending the same class in a few weeks and will be sure to clarify! Are there any veterans out there that can share their experience? I have been shedding hair like crazy since 6 weeks post op, so I'm selfishly hoping this is true!!!

Yeah, I was one of those overachievers as well...started losing at 2 months and went thru seven months. Some days it was horrifying.

My doc said, "Anything you lose due to surgery will grow back." I'm seeing lots and lots of new growth. It's making styling a challenge, but it's good to see - it gives me hope.

Here's what I did...I stared using Nioxin Shampoo. It has a drying effect on my scalp, so a couple of days a week, I used a moisturizing shampoo. I took Biotin and Folic Acid - approved by my doc. This is for regrowth more than losing. I also started using a product called Toppik - it works just like the videos on the website show. It seems expensive, but I'm still on my same bottle and have about 40% left.

At the end of the day, the hair loss bothered me, but I would do it all over again!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
